Proberly the most sensible post on here all year.

Can't understand motives when it comes to kids ( I know they were labour youth and this is seemingly political ) but they are clearly kids
Exactly, kids who hadn't even had the chance to get properly involved in politics yet, some of them could have been future politicians in Norway if they'd been given the chance. There's just no sense in it either way, but when it's aimed at kids it just seems that extra bit more cowardly.

It looks like a lot of kids died trying to swim to the shore from the island.:( Can't even imagine that choice.

Jesus more explosives found on the island. City centre of Oslo evacuated for the night. Really sounds like an attempt to target the Prime Minister tbh, not only to bomb his offices but he was supposed to be on the island too, attempting to get him there makes more sense than attacking a bunch of camping kids.

Knut Storberget, the Minister of Justice and Policing, has just confirmed that the suspect arrested is Norwegian.

Can all conspiracy theorists, religious bigots and general racists perhaps retract their gross assumptions?

well Al Quaida cells have been known to recruit people from their host countries

Agreed - seems like some sort of assassination attempt

Yeah sure and if they're not doing that, they're recruiting people from their home countries. Pretty much 100% of everyone in the world is potentially a member of Al-Quada. This is why we would need some actual evidence to distinguish between people.

Police can still not confirm if the shooter was working alone, either on island or with bombing.

Eyewitness report of 20-30 bodies in the water, but police will not confirm.

The security around the PM is almost non-existent. It is not unusual to see him and his wife out in the countryside skiing or walking. A very easy target for any assassin.

Yes indeed. There have also been incidents of nationals bombing their own countries. Heard of Timothy McVeigh?

    Sweet jesus.

My initial thoughts when I first heard this news today were that Norway is culturally similar to Ireland, with a similar population/politics/economy. If something like that can happen there, it could probably just as easily happen here too. It's frightening really.

since the attacker targeted both the goverment buildings and the youth camp for the labor party,i dont think it looks like a assassination attemt.;)
But then again nobody knows the motives behind the attack yet,but clearly it most have been political.

Panellists on Sky News not toeing the party line of blaming Al Qaida.

    A matter of pride.

In 1973 when the international oil crisis limited the use of private cars, the King or Norway travelled by public transport. In the same year he travelled to Holmenkollen on the tram insisting that he paid the conductor for his fare (right). He was asked how he dared to go out in public without bodyguards. He replied that he had 4 million bodyguards—the entire population of Norway.

He stated "racists". Had he meant to refer to the muslim bashers he doubtless would have referred to sectarianism in some manner.

Just spoke to my brother, the bombs went off two buildings away from his office! he's blessed, he was going out the door about 2 minutes earlier and someone stopped him to ask him something, he would have going by the bombs when they exploded :(

An update on this, rang the brother again a little while ago, think the first time I spoke to him he was in shock, he told me that he was based in the VG building (newspaper), when he went down to the lobby there was smoke everywhere, but also it looked like someone had spray hosed the walls in jam :(

Also told me that the initial blast sent him half way across the office in his wheelie chair, he was lucky not to get milled by flying glass.

Thank jaysus he has the bottle of Captain Morgan to calm his nerves lol, sadly his girlfriend has spent the evening bawling her eyes out thinking that he may have been disintegrated, have to say, he's a lucky fecker that he didn't leave the building when he originally planned to.
