Norway: Blast near prime minister's office in Oslo

A large explosion has hit near government headquarters in the Norwegian capital Oslo.

The blast is thought to have caused damage to the offices of Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and a number of other official buildings.

Witnesses have said several people were injured in the incident in the centre of the city.

Pictures from the scene showed shattered windows and smoke drifting in the streets.

A journalist with Norwegian public radio station NRK said the headquarters of tabloid newspaper VG were also damaged.

"I see that some windows of the VG building and the government headquarters have been broken. Some people covered with blood are lying in the street," the Associated Press news agency quoted him as saying.

Norway have military in Afganistan as part of Nato and quite a few known Islamic radiacals live in Oslo. No one has admitted it. Eyewitnesses said they thought it was an earthquake the blast was so big. The PM has been taken into safety.

Actually, we don't know yet if it was a bomb. Could have been gas.

Fùck, just by looking at the mess on the streets you could tell this was a huge explosion.

Hopefully, the casualties are low.

The main hospital in Oslo is being cleared in preparation for casualties.

The Irish embassy is half a kilometre away from the blast site apparently, but all staff are safe according to The Journal.

According to some it seems to be a car bomb(s).

Considering Norway's role in Nato it could've been extremists. I don't think Norway has had any sort of political violence like that before?

If this was a terrorist attack (we're not 100% sure yet) and that it was perpetrated by an Islamic terrorist organisation, then there is no reason why Ireland wouldn't be attacked in the future. Although, we have to remember that Norway is in NATO and was involved in Afghanistan and Libya, so maybe Norway was a little bit more at risk of being a target than Ireland. Either way, this will mean that Ireland needs to toughen up it's security at this time.

I guess that today will be known as 22/7 (or 22/7 for Americans).

Edit: BBC is saying Norwegian Police have confirm that it was a bomb, the perpetrated is not known as of yet I believe.

We also have ISAF troops in Afghanistan, not many, but we do have some.
