When did you do your aptitude test?
Trying to gauge the time frame

I completed the test on the 11th of this month, so 11 days ago. There's two more selection "Rounds" after the phone interview, should you get further. Again, you could be called at any point over the next two weeks.

Was told I'd get a call back around the 8th of August, give or take. Would have to travel to Dublin for interview in the week or two after that at some point, if I get that far.

I'm 21. No telecoms experience at all. No 3rd level education either.

Common sense & intelligence is all you need.

Its looking like age is all you need. All these good candidates in the thread havent heard a thing but the 2 kids have. We will see what kind of pattern develops here.

I do find it patronising being called a kid at 21 years of age, but I'll let it slide. Maybe the kids have more intelligence ;)

Quote from phone call; "We're looking for the new generation of Eircom staff".

I think we would all agree that the majority of the engineers currently working for Eircom are of a mature variety?

There is a variety of positions to be filled after qualification. Engineers/installers (Dealing with customers), larger network engineers/ diagnostics, desk work @ HQ etc. Could be with Eircom, Meteor or E-mobile.

It will be interesting to see how it trends. I have a fair idea of the type of person they are looking for. Time will tell.
    Best 'o luck!

I'm 28 and have no experience in Telecoms. I think they must be just going by the aptitude test results initially for the phone interviews? By the sounds of it you are starting from scratch, so I don't think telecoms knowledge is a requirement (although it would be very helpful).

Had my phone interview today and think it went quite well. It sounds like a very good opportunity and you are guaranteed a permanent job offer after the two year programme which is a big bonus.

    Best of luck to everyone

to say intelligence and common sense is all you need proves you have a long way to go my friend. Aptitude has a huge part to play and you wont even know if you have it until your on a pole at 3 am in the rain trying to trouble shoot a faulty switch gear...
FYI after speaking to Eircom the fact I have a degree is an advantage...

No need to get worked up. Not all of the jobs involve being up a pole at 3AM pal, so that's a bit of an exaggeration. The woman interviewing me said that a degree was neither an advantage nor disadvantage as everybody will be learning the same thing over two years.

    We'll see :D

the job will involve emergency maintenance and support...and stuff like that only breaks down at 3 am in a storm ha ha..recon its the law of averages. It will be interesting to how it shapes up. the course looks good but its the hands on that makes the engineer

You seem to be have the misconception that everybody will be driving round the country, in a little Eircom van, with a toolbox in the back. You don't have to do front line work, could be in an office or similar. It's a 39Hr week, 9-5 thing.

Would definitely be a good experience anyway. You & I may end up meeting & we can argue some more ;) haha

    I hear yah.

There is 4 types of position available:

Customer Service Delivery and Assurance Technician
    Network Build Technician
    Engineering Field Force Technician
Service Management Centre, Technical Support – Office Based

What I'd like to know is do you get a choice which area you'd like to go into, if you get chosen for the apprenticeship? Or will they put you "where you are most suited"?

good point. I would like the choice. but if i got offered any id jump!

same here but I have 5 years experience in tech support up to level 2 already and I'd rather do Network Build Technician or Engineering Field Force Technician to learn something new and get into a new field.
