Ah, I genuinely believed this was a call centre I worked in, South Dublin. Clearly the job attracts a certain calibre

Was only made aware of this today but apparently a guy was fired from here for porn in the last couple of months.....the IT department took away his PC and it turned out he had been looking at hardcore midget porn

I usually leave when I can't take any more crap off of people. Then after living off my savings for a while I end up with the same group of people in a different area dealing with what ever generation that company markets to.

That one in question was my first. I lasted only four months. We were dealing with pensioners and I found myself drinking nagons of vodka midweek to combat the fall out when I got home. I didn't have the "don't take it personally" skill at the time. One and only time I was driven to drink. Woeful.

OP - you do realise surely, that you shouldn't be looking up gay porn at work?

I worked in a jewellers from when I turned 16 in 08 to xmas 09. The bastards woldn't give me the day off for an exam for my DEGREE. They also went mental because I couldn't work one saturday in June 09. I was a little busy sitting my English Paper 2

Then I went in this christmas just gone to see what they had on special offer (every xmas there's something from every price range on special offer) and the supervisor was like 'Oh your name was men tioned this xmas, look at the girls we have working ehre now. They're running around like headless chickens!'

Well that's what you get when you don't treat staff well  I'm now working for a company that treats me well, pays me more and gives me ACTUAL responsibilities.

I was sacked twice from the same job when I was about 16.

1st time the boss accused me of robbing something from the aisle I was working on, he told me I was dismissed with immediate effect.

1 threatening letter from a solicitor later and he took me back on.

2 days later he sacked me for being an hour later back from a break.

Decided not to fight it as I was clearly not wanted and it was a ****ing crap job anyway.

Met the ex-boss a few years ago by chance. He's still an assistant manager of a very regional shit supermarket. Oh well..

Since somebody else here has got my company stories out of the way, I got fired myself. Working in Dunnes as a teenager, I got pissed drunk the night before a shift and spent the whole thing asleep on a pile of nappies at the back of the storeroom. Worst thing is I would have got away with it if I hadn't overslept my shift by two hours.

A friend of mine had a bitch of a manager demand for months that they implement a IT solution to stop people looking at "disgusting" porn on their work machines. She obviously had a issue with the industry itself as well as a vendetta to blot it out from the world. So they brought in a program that scanned all the machines periodically as well as monitored all videos and images, backed them up and rated them on a scale of one to ten. Both inside and outside of the office(laptops). All staff were warned multiple times about the software and the implications of any material found when it was turned on. At the end of the month aside from a few unavoidable pop up images from web pages the only person found with porn, a considerable amount at that, was the manager who had requested it all be implemented. Her husband had been "using" it in the evenings. She wasn't very well liked at this stage and got her marching orders.

Lastly in the same company, a sales guy was on the way to a meeting to close a multi-million euro deal. His car wouldn't start in the morning, so he walked across the road and payed for a brand new Audi A4 with the company card. He went to the meeting, closed the deal and headed back to the office to tell the boss. Boss was so happy that he told him he was allowed keep the car and bring it home. He could also drive his crap from his office back with him as well because he was fired with no severance or bonus from the deal. Which was worth far more then the car!

Was sacked once around the age of twenty. I was merchandising milk in Dunnes Stores came in lalooed from the night before, singing songs, so as Dunnes couldn't sack me cos I worked for a milk company they just barred me from Dunnes. So a kind of sacking, let go for inability to perform my duties.

The only other time I was sacked was in manufacturing in Dell, there was free internet for use and all the lads (country chaps) were looking at porn. I arrived back and they all walked away from the internet, grand says I, I'll look up flight tickets. Phone call, whats your name? I answewred, were you looking at porn? huh, no, why. Everyone around pissing themselves laughing. Came in the next day, what are you doing here? there's no job for you. A happy day for me in the end as brighter prospects popped up soon after.

I might be bonkers here but I think the poster was 16 in 2008, was 17 in 2009, sat the Leaving Cert in June 2009, went to college in September 2009, had college exam as part of her degree course in December 2009 and finished working at the place at Christmas 2009. :D

..(and yes at first I thought the same as you)

I'm sure people have been sacked for spending too much time on boards, imagine if they were looking at this thread when it happened....oh the ironing!

Not really a sacking, but after 4 years working for Tesco I was forced to leave because they wouldn't give me six months off to do my industrial placement. I was only working 2 days a week at this stage (Sat/Sun) and had previously worked 7 days per week (5 in one job, 2 in another) and never let them down.

    So I was.."let go"?

They have found themselves there several times, but it is alleged that they don't exactly play fair.

To be fair, you complaining that they wouldn't give you a day off for an exam for your "DEGREE!" might have implied that it was something more important than a Christmas exam in first year...

    Good lord.

All in a customer care call centre -

One guy got the sack for skinning up at his desk (only ever happened on Sundays or really late at night)... In fairness he was actually really good at his job though.

Another guy spent the whole month after training just "dropping calls"... He would hang up as soon as he got the beep in his ear.

I used to do that about 500 times a day. I quit the job though.

Never been sacked. But there have been a few sackings where I worked(in a helpdesk).

There was a Swedish guy who lived into the building for about 3 months. We have showers, a gym, a recreation room, mini-cinema & vending machines..almost everything you could get at home. And it gets quite empty after 5pm. So, he just slept under his desk on a blow up mattress.

We also had a guy who came from the United Arab Emirates. He ran up a massive phone bill by calling home multiple times per day to speak to friends/family. He was also dog-mannered towards female customers. I'm guessing he was sacked over the phone bill, but it's rumoured he only came to managements attention after being overheard verbally abusing a customer, so it might have been that...or both.

And we had an Icelandic guy who was obsessed with ice hockey. One day the national team lost a big game of some sort and he was in a foul humour. Some customer annoyed him, and he just went nuts. He ripped the telephone from the desk, through it about 50 feet and walked out of the building. Oddly enough, they rehired him about 2 years later, purely because of his excellent technical & problem solving abilities.

Have you ever been sacked from a job, or have you ever known anyone who was sacked from a job for an unusual reason?

I work in an open plan office and a few years ago there was a lad sacked for looking at gay porn:eek:, he was actually reported by other staff cos they could see it on his screen...that has to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard of someone getting caught doing in work...anyone else got a contender?

ive been sacked before, but generally its for being too efficient... you know lads and ladies streching work out for extra few bob... that kills me on the inside and i can't do it.

Far worse then Gay pronz imho.

when i was 18 i worked in a cotton mill and used to go out on a full day session every sunday. monday morning meant sleeping in the very comfy yarn bins for three or four hours at a time. After about 3 months i got caught and was sacked. well worth it though, hehe.

Since then i've had to sack people for all sorts of stuff:
    snorting cocaine in the toilets

having a hand shandy in the women's toilets as he claimed in his "defence" that he had a fetish for hearing women piss and this was the only way to satisfy it.

laughing at a customer down the phone and saying "haha, I shifted your daughter last weekend, so shut the **** up" (he had done the deed, in fairness)

phoning sex chat lines while at his desk.

    and many many others..........
