Have you ever been sacked from a job, or have you ever known anyone who was sacked from a job for an unusual reason?

I work in an open plan office and a few years ago there was a lad sacked for looking at gay porn:eek:, he was actually reported by other staff cos they could see it on his screen...that has to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard of someone getting caught doing in work...anyone else got a contender?

Was once sacked for having a secret relationship with a colleague. Against the rules.

I also fired someone for refusing to sit in the back seat of the car. He insisted on sitting in the passenger seat which was occupied by another colleague. He said he wouldn't get into the car unless he could get in the front. I said "that suits me" and told him was fired and drive off.

Nope. I still think you have to be either stupid or really useless to get sacked.

    Nope never been sacked..... BUT....

My first job, I worked there for about a year, about a month before I left, the boss asked me to do a project that involved me borrowing a company laptop.... Young bloke+company laptop+internet = fap fap fap....

Called back a few months after I had left, and was talking to some of my ex collegues and the told me that one of the sales reps was sacked because the found some ropey material on a lap top he was using....

A guy in work was recently sacked for porn as well. Well he wasn't really sacked, more like he could no longer get to work as he was behind bars. Seems the girls in his porn videos were slightly younger than is legally acceptable. What's worse is he's the second guy in the office to get caught with that sort of thing.

And I know of a few people who were caught having a hand shandy at the desk and promptly given their marching orders. (Not to the same porn as the other guy)

I was sacked from a pub in london - loved working there and me and landlady got on great - she used to leave me in charge while she sat upstairs watching the telly!

Then a new brewery took over and we had to sign a form saying we wouldn't serve anyone under 18 - obvious - however it also said that we would be liable if we served them even if they didnt look under 18 and had id! I didnt sign and got my cards! :(

    Good lord.

All in a customer care call centre -

One guy got the sack for skinning up at his desk (only ever happened on Sundays or really late at night)... In fairness he was actually really good at his job though.

Another guy spent the whole month after training just "dropping calls"... He would hang up as soon as he got the beep in his ear.

Yep. And because two guys in one office were caught, the police checked all our laptops in case we were part of a "ring".

We were all clean. But the first guy who got caught still works here as he got a suspended sentence. Very few people work with him though for obvious reasons.

Just remembered another one. In my last company a contractor was sacked when he was found coming out of a plant room very regularly (plant room is large industrial room in a factory full of wires, pipes etc.). Turns out he was climbing above the women's toilets and had punched a hole threw the ceiling slates for a sneaky view.

Now that I think of it I've worked in a places full of perverts!

Never sacked but ended up leaving a company the day before I was due to because some ass hole head of security came over from the UK and thought it was very convenient I was leaving the company when he was visiting to investigate till shortages. Marched me out of the place mid shift and made me feel embarassed and humiliated in front of my friends and colleagues.

Was due to start my first proper job the following Monday so I didn't kick up a fuss but I'll never forgive the manager at the time who stood by and let some over sized bully accuse me of theft and walk me out of there mid shift. Horrible way to leave a company I had otherwise nothing but fond memories of.

And no, I didn't take the money!

Jaysus imagine the embarrassment of walking in the office knowing that everyone knows what ya did.

A guy I worked with got the sack cos our boss caught him watching porn on his computer. Our boss saw the refection of his screen off the window that was behind him. What a dumb-*ss!

I worked in a hotel as a student where one of the barmen got fired for having his fingers in the till and a waitress for having her mouth around a manager in his office

The 3 of'em were all in the same dept as well.

I know a girl who was on fully-paid sick leave for a year, and then appeared on telly promoting her home-business website which she had launched "a year ago".

Not really aware of any others. One guy in our place was told to back up his laptop as he was getting an upgrade and promptly uploaded 40GB of porn onto the company network. Worse, it was into the area where only client information is stored.

A complete moron I used to hang around with as a kid got a job in a cinema and on his second day didn't bother going in. When they rang him and asked him where he was, he said he didn't feel like coming in today, he'd be in tomorrow. He spent about a week bitching about the "cúnts" for firing him.
Though this guy had literally 20 minimum-wage jobs in the space of a year. The longest he managed to keep one was a week.

A certain chain of exclusive gyms in Dublin fired a rake of childcare staff a few years ago because they were joining a union. The same gym has, in the last 9 months fired 2 cleaning staff and at least one member of gym staff for completely fatuous, if not completely made up, reasons. One of the cleaners got a warning, and a full-volume bollocking in the main reception, for wasting money on bin liners by emptying bins too often.

Is this a call center in Cork by any chance? As the same incidents happened where I worked including the BO incident.

Years ago I scored a girl in Coppers but as I was still living at hone at the time I brought her back to work and did the deed in th stockroom. Fair enough I deserved it.

The annoying thing is I would have got away with it only I drunkenly bragged about it four weeks later to the area manager.

Oh to be young and foolish!

I hope the owners end up in court some day. I'm thinking about chancing my arm and going self employed. Due to the crap I've had to put up with I'd never ever treat anyone I hired with horribleness (getting way ahead of myself). I'm only working a few days a week so I've enough time on my hands. Small start up and see how it goes for a while but still keep my two/three day a week job till I see how it fares out.

I might be mad in a recession but as no one is willing to give me a decent job so I might as well make one up for myself :).

I usually leave when I can't take any more crap off of people. Then after living off my savings for a while I end up with the same group of people in a different area dealing with what ever generation that company markets to.

That one in question was my first. I lasted only four months. We were dealing with pensioners and I found myself drinking nagons of vodka midweek to combat the fall out when I got home. I didn't have the "don't take it personally" skill at the time. One and only time I was driven to drink. Woeful.

I worked in a jewellers from when I turned 16 in 08 to xmas 09. The bastards woldn't give me the day off for an exam for my DEGREE. They also went mental because I couldn't work one saturday in June 09. I was a little busy sitting my English Paper 2

Then I went in this christmas just gone to see what they had on special offer (every xmas there's something from every price range on special offer) and the supervisor was like 'Oh your name was men tioned this xmas, look at the girls we have working ehre now. They're running around like headless chickens!'

Well that's what you get when you don't treat staff well  I'm now working for a company that treats me well, pays me more and gives me ACTUAL responsibilities.

I was sacked twice from the same job when I was about 16.

1st time the boss accused me of robbing something from the aisle I was working on, he told me I was dismissed with immediate effect.

1 threatening letter from a solicitor later and he took me back on.

2 days later he sacked me for being an hour later back from a break.

Decided not to fight it as I was clearly not wanted and it was a ****ing crap job anyway.

Met the ex-boss a few years ago by chance. He's still an assistant manager of a very regional shit supermarket. Oh well..

Since somebody else here has got my company stories out of the way, I got fired myself. Working in Dunnes as a teenager, I got pissed drunk the night before a shift and spent the whole thing asleep on a pile of nappies at the back of the storeroom. Worst thing is I would have got away with it if I hadn't overslept my shift by two hours.

A friend of mine had a bitch of a manager demand for months that they implement a IT solution to stop people looking at "disgusting" porn on their work machines. She obviously had a issue with the industry itself as well as a vendetta to blot it out from the world. So they brought in a program that scanned all the machines periodically as well as monitored all videos and images, backed them up and rated them on a scale of one to ten. Both inside and outside of the office(laptops). All staff were warned multiple times about the software and the implications of any material found when it was turned on. At the end of the month aside from a few unavoidable pop up images from web pages the only person found with porn, a considerable amount at that, was the manager who had requested it all be implemented. Her husband had been "using" it in the evenings. She wasn't very well liked at this stage and got her marching orders.

Lastly in the same company, a sales guy was on the way to a meeting to close a multi-million euro deal. His car wouldn't start in the morning, so he walked across the road and payed for a brand new Audi A4 with the company card. He went to the meeting, closed the deal and headed back to the office to tell the boss. Boss was so happy that he told him he was allowed keep the car and bring it home. He could also drive his crap from his office back with him as well because he was fired with no severance or bonus from the deal. Which was worth far more then the car!

Was sacked once around the age of twenty. I was merchandising milk in Dunnes Stores came in lalooed from the night before, singing songs, so as Dunnes couldn't sack me cos I worked for a milk company they just barred me from Dunnes. So a kind of sacking, let go for inability to perform my duties.

The only other time I was sacked was in manufacturing in Dell, there was free internet for use and all the lads (country chaps) were looking at porn. I arrived back and they all walked away from the internet, grand says I, I'll look up flight tickets. Phone call, whats your name? I answewred, were you looking at porn? huh, no, why. Everyone around pissing themselves laughing. Came in the next day, what are you doing here? there's no job for you. A happy day for me in the end as brighter prospects popped up soon after.

Not really a sacking, but after 4 years working for Tesco I was forced to leave because they wouldn't give me six months off to do my industrial placement. I was only working 2 days a week at this stage (Sat/Sun) and had previously worked 7 days per week (5 in one job, 2 in another) and never let them down.

    So I was.."let go"?
