    ^^^^

I can imagine that they'll ask you to use your own car for a short period before they could supply you with a van. Its not like they got a van for everyone ya know ^.^

Oh I understand what you mean, I wouldn't expect to walk in and be provided with a van. Don't mind using my car to go to the sites, but I can't imagine a Fiesta coping to well getting up rocky surfaces etc..

Now advertised on FAS, pay stated as 19000, closing date 25th July.
Worth a try jimbis, your experience might count. I think they gear these apprenticeships more towards school leavers, hence the leaving cert requirement, but worth a try.

wow if its 19k in the first year thats not too bad for an apprenticeship. do you reckon preference goes to recent school-leavers?

I would think they will take the best candidates. The more experienced candidates would be better for a company in these times. Less likely to leave.

I was talking to my friends dad as I said in a earlier post, who did the same apprenticeship he said that the pay comes out for the apprentice at either 17 - 19k a year..

Just did the test for this, that whole spatial section just did not compute but other than that it was fine :)

I would say experienced candidates would bring more to the company but also more likely to leave as they have experience in other areas compared to the kid just out of school who only has their eircom experience.

Trying to not be too pessimistic but I can see alot of these places being filled "inhouse" too.
Hope I'm wrong and good luck to everybody ;)

Don't forget fellow boardies when your planning out those fiber links too :D

    Thousands, for 50 positions.

I wouldn't be the least bit suprised. In 12 months of job hunting in Ireland, this is the 1st opportunity like this I've come across.

The applications started the 11th of July, closes the 25th of July. I can say that this i well worth trying for my mate's dad did this about 20 years ago or something he still works for eircom to this day..

I applied a few days ago, got through all the test's. Found them hard enough, also easy at times.

Anywho.. whoever did apply wont hear anything back from them till after closing date the 25th. =]

Any ideas what you will be on money wise when qualified? Would you have an idea what rate your mate's dad is on?

Pay and conditions of current staff are not a guide to future pay and conditions , true of many jobs but none moreso than Eircom , they are in severe financial difficulty and when I was there the focus was on cost-cutting , outsourcing work , changing benefits , etc.
Not saying this is not a job worth going for but you can be sure that upon sucessful completion of training , people will be on different contracts with different pay and benefits compared to those with longer service.

i know its crap for us, they are probably just handpicking who got the best score on the aptitude test. taught i done ok in the test, suppose we'l just have to wait and see. did you get a mail back when you completed the test saying that they recieved it or anything?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 136 ✭✭brotherrabbit

Nothing! its terrible. Id rather be told no straght away instead of this waiting :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 thejohn0512

To be honest, I don't think they're looking for people with degrees. There is such a thing as being over qualified. I found the test simple enough apart from the final part with the "Generators", I was baffled  . I got a call today also, phone interview tomorrow.

    Should be interesting!

    Good luck.

Watching that is one hell of a statement to make and now I would like you to back it up??? do you have freinds or family in the HR dept in eircom ??

FYI In a process like this the tests are done in such a way that everyone has a fair chance...from leaving certs who know nothing about single phase and 3 phase distribution and transmission to people that spent the best part of 4 years studying it.

Best of luck to all. including thus with and without degrees

The qualification gained after the two years of the apprenticeship is at FETAC level 6. Which as you know, is below degree level. This somewhat gives you an idea. If I wanted your lip, I'd cut it off. People with degrees don't need apprenticeships, that's just greed? They have a much higher chance of getting in to a decent job already In my opinion, it's about giving people that don't, the chance. Just finished the phone interview, went quite well. They're interviewing people until beginning of next month, so if you heard nothing don't panic just yet.

When did you do your aptitude test?
Trying to gauge the time frame
