Rashaad, nineteen, was visiting friends when he announced his intention to play the deadly game. He apparently did not realize that a semiautomatic pistol, unlike a revolver, automatically inserts a cartridge into the firing chamber when the gun is cocked. His chance of winning a round of Russian roulette was zero, as he quickly discovered.

In fairness, sober, he would probably have never dreamt of doing it, the auld grog does funny things to young men. If you watch the "I just fcuking shot myself" video, in the slow mo replay you can watch the track the slug takes down his thigh, entering about three quarters up and stopping just above the kneecap. The ballistic energy transferred to his leg literally baloons the flesh ahead of the bullet path. Once the shock and adrenaline wears off, that would be one sore puppy, if he lived, 'cos the femoral artery is lurking in them parts and once cut, times up without a good surgeon close by.
A great many people shoot themselves while drawing weapons because they just don't know enough about what they're at.
When I was younger I had a lot of family down visiting. All the fellas were pestering me to let them go outside and shoot my guns, so I took a few of them outside and set up some cans and loaded a rifle for them.
I said to the first guy, here you go, its loaded and ready to shoot, just point it at the target and let off the safety. One of the others behind asked me somthing as I handed the gun over, so I was only half looking at what I was doing. The guy took the rifle off me, and with his finger firmly on the trigger:eek: let off the safety. The shot passed about 1/2" in front of my chin, and buried itself in the wall beside my brother in laws head, literally millimeters from his skull. We stopped shooting cans then. I am now older and wiser, and nobody touches my gun, no matter how much they ask or whinge. Lesson learnt.

Perhaps you should watch the video again, the gentleman in question does not appear to be a member of An Garda Siochana. Therefore you are making a general assumption about all ~14000 members of AGS and as the old saying goes to assume is to make an ass out of you and me, and from what I can see there is only one ass here...
