It probably should. What difference does it make if a 15 year old buys a ticket if they can't claim it?
The fact that it was sold to them in the first place.

What's different about paddy power is that all wins will be credited to an account. The issue of who is using that account is not really relevant.

With the lotto, any significant wins must be collected in person. So if a 16 year old rocks up to claim €185 million, there are going to be red faces.

For Paddy Power's purposes, their lives are made easier if they don't ask. They do however retain the right to request proof of ID.

Afaik, the lotto can also only be claimed by Irish residents. I could be wrong though.

    Doesn't make it acceptable.

Kids are using their parents credit cards to deposit, running up huge bills which in turn are then chargedback.

Lotto are going about it the right way.

No its nanny state crap, the gambling sites are doing it right. I would say the number of under 18's stealing their parents credit cards and setting up an account is tiny and the number running up massive bills is non existent.

I work for an online gaming company and can tell you that that is absolutely not true.

There are pros and cons with the National Lottery running differently to other gambling sites. Apparently people want all the pros and none of the cons.

If you have a valid winning lottery ticket the National Lottery isn't going refuse you the pay out. If you have a winning betslip with Paddy Power there's nothing stopping them from telling you wipe your backside with it and not pay over a penny.

If you must play ( :pac: ), you're better off doing it online at Paddy Power or the likes. E.g. pick three numbers, 250/1 (iirc).

Not bad. Stick on €740,000 and you have a shot at €185m.

Bookies are better for most prizes, but the lack of the big jackpot is a turn off.

Indeed. One is more modern (however argument over effectiveness) in procedural processing - the other, well thats a rarity in older slower processing.
...Thankfully one thats not adopted world-wide.

...And lets be honest, if a kid is going to steal a parents credit card, he/she is going to use it probably 99 times out of 100 in the use of accessing porn - not chasing after 6 irish balls! :pac:

    Too.....many.....jokes.....:D

As a pedant I have to point out that the balls in question arent Irish, but are euro balls and there are 7,not 6:P

*unless you were referring to the irish lottery, and if so ignore the attempted smartarsery above*

Perhaps because of it's connections to the State itself, they don't want the state/government to be seen as encouraging gambling by kids/teens.
    The nanny state again.

By the way gaming sites do ask for ID regularly. However they are up with the times enough to realise a scanned copy emailed to them is more convenient for the customer than posting a copy.

(Coming from someone who has signed up to plenty of gambling and casino sites (over 100) )

Other national lottery sites use national databases etc... so are going to be looking at your passport/ID in some form anyway. If our national lottery was doing that you'd have someone complaining about people accessing your information. Most other gambling sites couldn't give a toss because they are under no obligation to pay out anything.

Nonsense. The UK one doesn't. It may check the validity of your credit card, but that's standard e-commerce fraud management. The stupid thing is the post thing doesn't prevent fraud anyway; if a kid can nick your credit card, they can nick your passport.

Can anyone help me? I need a fake photocopy of a drivers licence or passport.

    Thanks!

    Eh, No it doesn't.

Paddy power, boylesports and plenty of other gambling sites dont require me to get off my arse and go post letters just so i can open an account. What's wrong with verifying a debit/credit card?

I haven't seen a website use a system like this in years! It's bollox.

Sky Poker currently asks you to do this (well it did 6 months ago when I tried to sign up) and one other site I can't remember the name of, it wasn't Irish though.

I do agree it is bo**ox

I signed up on lotto.ie and had no issue with verifying my age and identity.

However, I do have an issue with the fact that I can't so much as check my lotto between 11pm and 7am. WTF? Do they have someone manually checking my ticket or something?

Would be a bit pointless seeing an under 18 who went to all this trouble wouldn't be able to claim their prize anyway.

And going back to the OP imagine the fuss if a 7 year old signed up without being asked to prove their age and then won €185 million.

Nonsense, how often on winning streak is there some parent playing on behalf of a kid thats too young, and they tell the story at the start??? I'd watch Winning Streak very rarely, but i've seen it at least 3 times.

If a 7 year old can go through the process of filling in the web application sections and get credit card details, understand the whole lot and enter the relevant data - he/she will be able understand the text "you have to be 18 to play and claim prize" or words to that effect!

There'd be bigger fuss when they go into their nearest shop asking for 18 billion, 500 million penny sweets...

They also have this stupid limit on the number of draws you can enter. What is the point, do they think I'm checking the lotto site every week to make sure my ticket hasn't expired.
