Pixies, Doolittle Live, (last year?) in the Olympia. Had never seen them before, great bloody gig.

Honourable mentions also go to :

Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros in the Olympia. Just found souvenir t-shirt in the folks the other day, think he died later that year, played some Clash songs, fan-bloody-tastic.

Grandaddy, also in the Olympia circa "The Sophtware Shlump".

Fleet Foxes/Beach House in Whelans. Met Fleet Foxes outside too, had a smoke with 'em and got my ticket signed by all 5.

I'm sure I'll remember lots more!

11 posts in 6 years, wow it must have been a good gig if you were conceived at it and posted about it here. ;)

Insert 'New Born' or 'Plug In Baby' joke here...

    Lupe Fiasco in Tripod.

He played all his stuff with a full band, drummer, 2 keys, 2 guitars, bass, DJ the lot and there was some energy in it.

Nirvana supporting Sonic Youth in the Top Hat Dun Laoghaire, 21st August 1991. Didn't have a clue who they were but Christ they took the place apart. Sonic Youth were seriously upstaged.

Nevermind would have been recorded by then, god.. brilliant, literally the last few rounds of normal sized gigs they ever would have played.

Arctic Monkeys Oxygen 2006, the weather was god awful but damn they blew every act on the main stage away. amazing from start to finish. The Strokes couldn't follow it.

Doves Olympia 2009. Just brillant from start to finish. Underrated band

Check out The Year Punk Broke - a documentary about that tour with Sonic Youth and Nirvana.

Completely disagree! The Strokes were a million times better!!
The Strokes - Oxegen 2006 - The beautiful sound of a whip crackin'! Julian arrived on stage stumblin with a bottle of wine in one hand and the whole crowd in the other!

Different Strokes for different folks.... Geddit... Ok ill get my coat...

Roger Waters, The Wall earlier this at the O2.

    A few of mine;

Rage Against the Machine - seemed a little bluesier than I expected, which was great!
    Iggy Pop
Roger Waters - DSotM at the Point, thought it was better than his recent Wall tour
Sonic Youth in McGonagles around 1990, very small venue for them, absolutely packed.
Grant Lee Buffalo in the Olympia, I think it was '91. Incredible sound from an acoustic guitar.
Spiritualized - I've seen them many times, sometimes they can be awful, but when they are good they are very special.
Half Man Half Biscuit and The Flaming Lips, both in the smaller tent in Reading, both excellent.

It's got to be later than that. Their first album was only out in '93/'94 wasn't it?

    Was at that-Cracking gig.

    Tangerine Dream Tangram Tour
    Golden Horde UCD freshers ball
Spiritualized Laser Guided tour Rock Garden
    Hawkwind Finsbury Park
Casiotone for the painfully alone Whealans

The Go! Team at the Academy. The energy going around the room was incredible. I was nearly fainting by the end of the set, felt like I was giving it my all along with the band, props to them.

I was at Radiohead in Galway and the RDS and was disappointed both times. Not sure why but I suppose in general the bigger venues don't always work imo. As to the best well it's easy really:-

New Fast Automatic Daffodils - Eamon Dorans (think thats what it was called then)

    Honourable mentions:-

Pavement - Temple Bar Music Centre and Last years epic in Tripod
Rage Against the Machine - Feile
    Happy Mondays - Feile
    Ride - McGonagles
    Charlatans - Reading
Wedding Present - anytime, anywhere. Can't remember a bad gig.
A-House - Farewell gig in the Olympia.

I was also a bit disappointed by Radiohead in Galway. Moreso, because i'd seen them shortly before that in the olympia and they were fantastic. I'd agree with your theory about the venues.

Nice list you have there too btw

Anyway, back on topic, David Bowie at the point supported by Morrissey stands out for me.

Pendulum in the RDS was one of my best..

Or Lamb of God, when they completely stole the show from Slayer at the Unholy Alliance tour in 06... Unreal gig...

James Taylor and his awesome backing band at the National Stadium back in the 80's.
And Dr Feelgood at the Olympic ballroom in the 80's too although Wilco Johnson was'nt with them then but still incredible.
The Average White Band in London back in the late 70's....amazing.
And surprisingly Charlie Pride at the Nat Stadium for which I only went because I got free tickets....he was a revelation and made me retink my hatred of some country music.
