Had €200 on Spain to win the World Cup at 9/2, posted about it in the gambling forum before the comp started.

The word most does not mean all.

Accumalators are the way to go...never a more exiting evening than a champions league evening with 7 or 8 teams with 4 euro getting possibly 500 back, i will never forgive roma for the same reason, letting in a last minute equaliser  a well, only 4 euro after all

to losing money yes, singles to be profitable in the long run is a must.

What a pointless bet. You put on €150 in the hope of winning less than a tenner??

300 on man utd win v newcastle @ 4/6 about 5/6 years ago. Last bet was 100 on Porto @1/2 v Braga in final. Both 1-0 games

Think it was €200. Spurs were after getting a new sponsor, Mansion.com, a few years back. As a promotion and to get people to join their site, they had a deal on the opening game of the NFL. You could put a max bet of €200 on the Colts (I think) to win or get your money back, I forget what the odds were. I layed it with another bookie and walked away with a few hundred. Easy money, only time I've ever used their site :D

7.5k on a basketball game. The Trailblazers to beat the Spurs. Found out that 2 Spurs starters were out and as usual Paddy Power were slow to adjust the odds on American markets. Blazers went from 2.25 to 1.53 about 5 mins after I got on it. Blazers won by 12 points.

There was a lot of people who had sheckels lifted off them, lest we forget the coronation of El Tel.

    No they're not.

Most I ever put on was €20 or so I think, can't remember if it won or not. :/ Usually don't put on more than a fiver.

I've a mate who likes a flutter so usually end up sticking a euro or two on a horse while I'm waiting for him to finish up in the bookies on the way to the pub.

Around a year ago I put a euro on a yoke at 66/1 for the craic, it tore home and I got about €80.

Thing is, I was happy with that although he'd view it as losing €3k rather than winning €80 because he would've had €50 on it. Gamblers :P

Most I've put on is about €8 at the Galway races.

My brother witnessed a man put €38000 to win on Cloone River, the odds-on favourite to win the Galway Plate (?) a few years ago...... and....

He fell at the first hurdle.

Put 200 on Spurs to beat West Brom a few years ago. West Brom were 1-0 up until the last 10 minutes when Robbie Keane scored twice. I still struggle to find reasons to like Robbie Keane :pac:

Havn't heard the word Eircom, property investments etc. mentioned here.

Its exactly the same thing, buying shares, only much bigger stakes involved and a much longer race.

The feeling when you lose is also worse. By definition, gambling on the stock or property market, your not talking here about losing tens or twenties. And the feeling you get when you get it right and you win, you feel absolutely brilliant.

    €200 and it lost.

And I carried that betting slip around with me for 6 months, so I could look at it when someone else rang me with word from the stable.

Hardly fell at the 1st hurdle if he was running in the plate. Thats not a hurdle race

I got into a bit of bother with gambling in the past. Bloody Paddy Power online games. I am ashamed to give the amounts involved. Thankfully I gave it up. The most I ever put on a single bet was a grand. I did an odds on bet to win back five hundred. It was on Shayne Ward to win X-Factor when it was down to between him and Andy the singing postman. Degrading stuff....

€1,400. Was playing poker in the Fitz. It was one of those nights when the deck was just hitting you in the face. I couldn't do a thing wrong. The average stack was about €200. There was this bloke who was obviously a gambler, but was down a right few quid. The min buy-in was a hundred but he'd lost a good bit more than this. He kept buying in for larger and larger amounts. He had about €3,000 in front of him.

I'm sitting there with aces when a bloke with queens gets it going. Your man has kings and isn't going away. Finally, we get it all in pre-flop.

He hits his king on the river.

Sorry, this is the "What's the most pain you've ever been in?" thread, isn't it?

I put a grand on Schumacher at the indinapolis gp a few years ago remember the one were the Michelin tyres would fail on the banking so only the 6 bridgestone cars finished the race.

Got in before the teams confirmed they would pull out. But odds still weren't great, think I got 2 grand back.
