Nice course, good tournament....but what are they thinking putting a senior scratch on the same weekend as the senior cup in munster,i notice even the Macroom senior cup team are in action that day:confused:

Because the course is unfortunately run by a committee that is 90% idiots.

played tralee scratch cup on saturday. 5hours 40mins to complete a 3ball.

Glorious sunshine and blue skies, good steady wind as well. As perfect a day as you could wish for playing the place. The pace of play was a disaster though, never really got going. Worth a return visit next year tho.

Played in this aswell on Saturday. Teed off at 10.55 and was in again just after 4. So we didn't have it too bad. At least the weather was kind. Have played there a few times but never got as good a day as we got Saturday. Any idea what sort of score won.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,205 ✭✭✭bailey99

no idea. It'll be in the examiner tomorrow morning. Last year it was awful conditions with rain etc and I think 78 won it, a tralee member and 79 was 2nd.

I would expect 77 to win it this year. Altough I found the greens very difficult to hold on saturday. So many raised greens, I found myself slipping off the side/back so many times.

Fantastic course and the staff down there are 2nd to none in my book. I forgot my golf shoes and the pro gave me a lend of a pair refusing to even take a few euros for the renting of them. I would return here every chance I get. Fantastic course and staff and at €35 I don't think anyone could complain about the value.

Saw that - will definitely be giving that one a go. Pity it isn't off the Blues though.

Never noticed that, the way i'm hitting the ball at the moment it's a good thing!

Yeah well I know what you mean :) but my home course is just so short, it's a novelty playing away on a long course where you can open the shoulders a wee bit. Still tho, it's still longer than home off the Whites so looking forward to it. The course may yet make mincemeat of me but would have been interesting off the Blues... 7004 yards versus 6645!

Big difference in the yardage alright and i would prefer to play off the Blues.
Never played it but there is a good hole by hole video of the course to have a look at. Just wanna play it and try get a decent score to get my confidence back a bit ! Hope the weather is kind to us on the day.

Would really be on for South County but I have a wedding on Saturday:mad:... played inter in Old Conna recently and really enjoyed it.... I have penciled in 3 or 4 more inters before end of summer... pity most are on Sundays which clash directly with home club competitions.... there are some on Saturdays but not as much choice!

Old Conna was 6.6k off backish markers (470 yard par 4!)... its strange for me to be hitting 3 wood and rescue into par 4s as like jabber home course is so short...

Senior Scratch has now been postponed to a TBD later date. Junior Scratch is still on Saturday though along with an open singles for anyone that wants to play that is not in the 6-11 caegory.

Tralee members dominated the prizes. 76 won it anyway, 79 was 2nd and a couple of 80's were 3rd and 4th.

Best nett was shot by a 16 handicapper who shot 86 for a -2 round of 70.

to be fair, there were 5 prizes for gross and 3 or 4 prizes for nett.

Anyone know if the junior scratch is Tara on the 23rd is 18 or 36?

    €30 seems a bit steep for 18

I'm not sure - reckon it has to be 36 at that price - it is on the Sunday tho (July 24th) not 23rd

Balbriggan 36-hole Junior Scratch (4-9) is on Sat July 23rd, 36 holes is €20

    Cheers SS.

Tried ringing Royal Tara but couldn't get an answer. Think ill go for Balbriggan, especially at that price.

Cork GC JSC on Sunday, €30 but worth it imo. I'm off in the afternoon, good luck to anyone else playing.

It's 18 holes. A bit steep allright, but I'm playing @ 9, haven't hit a ball in two weeks, due to holidays and captains on in my home club (missed the qualifiers)!!.

Lumsden Cup entries now open. Royal Dublin, August 7th 2011, 36 holes
Entries close 28th July at 1:00 PM. If entries exceed 81 a ballot will be held.

Cut off was 5.3 in 2009 I think but not sure there was one last year (Usually 9 or less to apply as far as I remember)

+7 generally sails through, 64 qualify

Play in the lumsden cup. Played over a far superior course, playing with lower handicap holders, in a much more prestigious competition, and you dont have to potentially worry about a week's
    holidays from work.

    Gotta be a no brainer

All correct and true- except I've gone upwards in handicap quite a bit and don't fancy myself in strokeplay around Royaler. I'm liable to shoot the lights out in matchplay and would fancy myself if I got through in Clontarf. Been playing Senior Cup and Barton shield since I was fourteen with more success than I have had in any strokeplay competition.

Any scratch cup winners from this thread this year guys?
