So a non-swimmer IM record replaced by a non-swimmer IM! Well non swimmer compared to the run, insane run split

So, a huge step up in the top age group results in Austria on Sunday.

    1st M35-39 went from 8:40 in 2010 to 8:33 in 2009 but 20th went from 9:34 down to 9:10.

    1st M40-45 went from 8:47 to 8:34 but 20th went from 9:46 to 9:12.

So gross oversimplification but the favourable conditions may have taken c. 5 - 10 minutes off but is the increase in competitiveness a result of the new Kona Pro rules or an anomoly of a stacked field for Austria in 2011?

Are we gonna see the same in switzerland and frankfurt?

Conditions helped I would imagine. about 20 degrees on Sunday compared to about 38 iirc last year?

For someone who himself said has done very little training our very own Tunney seems to be going well in Frankfurt, 1:09 swim and about 34km avg through 108km on the bike. If he holds pace it should see him complete the swim/bike in about 6.5hours.....not so shabby :)

Yeah seen that myself, hopefully he can get the run right now after last time

    Sandbagger ;)

    Tunney finished in 10.54.

    1.09, 5.25 and run in 4.08.

    Fair play.

That is impressive with limited training, not bad for plodding around :)

Hey I said I would do 10:47 so I wasn't far off. Was chuffed to be outmoded the water in 1:10 with effectively no swimming. I'm more of a runner so gutted with the "run" time.

Race report to come but in a nutshell a **** day in every sense of the word.

Horrific winds and rain. Cold too. Slow bike for everyone I think.

I got a tummy bug on Friday and that had an impact on the run. 10-15 trips to the portoloo.

I'd also underestimated the impact of being 12 stone and not 10.5.

A nicely run event. Pity about conditions.

Alot of disappointed Irish over here (I'm not one of them)

Fair play tunney, hate that you beat me off no training! (I) must try harder :)

Well done Tunney. Goes to show that limited training and a large dose of HTFU can go a long way :)

Was this Frankfurt? Well done Tunney.

Tunney did a good time in relation to the amount of training he did. But what you have to remember is that the guy has a lot of base miles logged over the years, so for anyone else expecting to go sub11 on the 2011 Tunney plan its not going to happen! You need 5/6years of consistent training in the bank before you can go sub 11 while being out of shape.

LOL at "being out of shape."

    ;)

"Out of Shape" relative to the sheep I have seen him in. We went to Italy in April 2007 & the guy looked like a skeleton just waiting for the skin to come off. He was probably too light then.

Mispelling I hope....or is there a reason there is a lost sheep in kenmare??

Fair play to Tunney for completing Frankfurt....I struggle to comprehend how someone can put themselves through that torture when they know they're completely out of shape and have gone much faster before. I hope Tunney its given you the motivation to get back into training again.

Well done Tunney! As LCD has said the haribo diet and training regime can only work for those who have the years of training behind them. Was the "Pleased to beat you" t-shirt handed over? ;-)

Good man Tunney, not a bad result there after all your winging ;) Kudos. Hey I dragged 12+ stone around Roth , no excuse :p Sounds like a tough day at th office at Frankfurt though.

JB, There is more intrinsic pressure put on you from this place than anywhere in real life, but then I guess you kind of set it up for yourself  I'll be tracking you too but know not to be getting carried away if you pull a good swim out of the bag!

For anyone interested, Roth report finally up in the log.
