I m preparing for that one too (clontarf) and I would love to do a sub 2, I m doing 8 miles in 1.25 do you recon I can make it?
I m a bit confused with the training plans to be honest, I m keeping the running at least 3 times a week and cross training in the bike, is it enough?

    Hi S.U.N.,
Three times a week might get you there, but four times would be a big help. Try to work in one speed session (tempo/intervals) per week but keep the rest of your runs at an easy pace.
On another note, I got an email during the week to say that the Cliffs of Moher HM has been cancelled due to lack of interest. I had booked it but am told the refund is coming soon. Pity, the views would have been nice, even if the elevation would have been tough!

    Hi All

Am hoping to do this. Did my first HM in the Pheonix Park last September - up to 10m with training again (which I ran in the park last Saturday) but it was the worst / hardest run in 2 years...didnt enjoy it at all no energy in legs and felt like thowing up - had to keep stopping...am now kinda worried about Clontarf - will try another 10 /11m this weekend and see how I get on...wish me luck!

Thanks Elvis - I had done 5m on Thursday and really enjoyed it. Had a good dinner - chicken tagin ethe night before and a small Ben and Jerrys icecream when I went to the cinema. Had hydrated well enough beforehand too...think its all a bit in my head but my legs had no energy in them..supposed to run Docklands 8km tomorrow night so will see how I get on at that.

    Hi FunGirl,
Did you have a meal/snack before the run? Not sure if you ran in the morning, if you did, was it before or after breakfast? If before, then you may not have had enough fuel. If you ran after, then you might want to leave more time - 1hr recommended. Did you take any water or gels on the run?
I'll be at Clontarf too, training has dropped off recently though due to hamstring strain. Doubt I'll be going for a PB, more like a good training run.

Elvis will do...assuming I am still alive at the finish line!!

Tec - re brekkie I didnt eat anything before I went out (forgot to go to shop to buy banana!!) - when I was training last year I used to just eat a good dinner the night before and then a banana about 1.5 hours before I headed out up to HM distance and that seemed ok. Have never tried any of the gels etc - to be honest I didnt feel like I needed them when I was running HM at the most..

    Hi FunGirl,
I would always have something before a morning run, usually porridge, water and a banana or two. You'd be surprised the difference it makes getting some food in the belly an hour or so before the run. I never had an issue with the food slopping around in my gut on the run either, but give it 20mins or so to settle before a training run and an hour or more before a race.

+1 On that, its a snickers for me. I have my porridge daily but find it too heavy before a run and banana can repeat on me but the snickers hits the spot and after a race they are normally all i can stomach as well.

I'm out of Clontarf now. My mate changed the date of his stag from 23rd to the night before the race...grrr.
Somehow I don't think I'll be in a good shape to run it, even if I got back from Galway in time :D

Have decided Saturday is a better day for this stuff...beginning to feel like I have spent all weekend just hanging round for run...buddies all gone to pub and i am on the sofa drinking water
had really crazy dream about getting stuck in sand while drinking tea last night...not the ideal race plan...anyway best of luck to all tomorrow!
