Site shouldn't slow down if they're updating it, the data is probably sitting in a database from yesterday waiting for someone to make it accessible

Why don't they host the servers in proper datacentres?? Doesn't make sense to host them on site.

I just joined here after frantically refreshing page for last 10 minutes to no avail. Glad to see I am not the only bricking it!

I wonder how many people right now are refreshing this boards site in one tab and the Student web services in the other.

(oh, and a random other tab open, more than likely facebook or gmail or youtube)

I suspect it's just a really long query to update the user data and results more likely from a backup.

I've getting time out errors, in other words the server is busy trying to serve the web site, but its been flooded with more requests then it can handle.

think of a long queue in a coffee shop, except the customers order something and if they don't get it in a very short space of time, they walk away.

Why don't they build one that can handle loads of requests? It would come in handy twice a year.

Its a security thing, they don't want some data off the physical site.

Having said that, the computer centre got a major upgrade last year, with proper cooling and power systems.
