Does anyone know when the exam results will be published for first year BBS in Business and Management and first year BBS in Business and Accounting?

Also, when are the repeats taking place?
    Thanks

Can anyone tell me if we get a percentage or do we just get a bracket like 70-100%?

    Percentages.

    Percentage.

You get the overall mark for the year too, which is either pass or fail in first year, but in 2nd/subsequent years they have 2.1, 2.2 etc on it as well.

Not true for all degrees. You only get PASS up until 3rd year in mine at least.

Ah right, it's probably just the years that can count towards your degree then. Which would explain why it would be from 2nd year in 3 year courses.

In 4 year degrees 3rd year can also count towards your degree. If the score you get taking 30% 3rd year results and 70% 4th year results is better than 100% 4th year results, you're awarded that instead, but only in that scenario.

Even so, my 3rd year results still say PASS even though I got a 1.1 that year.

I'm pretty sure it's only my first year that doesn't count towards my final degree, I'm doing the general science course.

I do hope to get percentage results, as I'm very competitive about grades, and I think I did quite well in most subjects. *mumble mumble* integral calculus *mumble mumble*

As I mentioned above, it's either 30:70 3rd/4th year results or all 4th year results for your final degree grade, whichever is better.

However, results from each year are important, especially for internships etc...

And yaw, you get the exact full final percentages and that.

Do the results be posted up on Moodle, similar to what most of my lectures did for Semester one exams, as well as posted out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,977 ✭✭✭mp3guy

They're posted out and put up on the student web services page under the student enquiry section.

Great. Will be handy as I'm not in the country during June or July.

They will probably be online on the 22nd or 23rd, going by previous years. Which means about 2 weeks

How do they calculate the degree exactly?

Is is just an average of all modules done in third year?

I've heard the following things though, which sound a bit made up: a) that they don't count your worst module, and b) that they use 30 per cent of your best marks from second year if it's to your advantage.

    Any truth in these?

I'm fairly sure that it is an average of all the modules done in third year. I think all the things that you've listed there are made up although I'm open to being proven wrong.

I heard that one as well!

It's odd that it's still so arcane, even for some third years.

Well, it's not exactly like everyone's falling over themselves to tell you these things officially. If you're passing and doing okay, then you're probably not going to look these kind of things up, and you're just going to go by what you hear.

With regards to the merging of 30% of your penultimate year's grades with your final year, are there any exceptions to this? I know they will only do it if it is to your advantage, but will it apply automatically or does the student have to request for this to be done?

Also, do they choose which modules are swapped/exchanged? Can they only be optional modules, or can the core (compulsory) ones also be exchanged?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 67 ✭✭Anonymous_Bosch

From what I can tell it's not 30 per cent of the penultimate year's grades (as I originally thought), rather the average mark for the penultimate year at a 30 per cent weight in combination with your final year marks. So there wouldn't be any choices to make.

So if you scored say, 65 per cent in second year and 58 per cent in your final year, the 58 would have a 70 per cent weight, and your penultimate year's 64 would be weighted at 30 per cent.

I'm no mathematician, but I think that would pull you into a 2:1. Barely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,977 ✭✭✭mp3guy

    It's automatically applied either way.

I'm in the strange position of already having a place on a MSc programme for next year. I'm interested in my results but I'm not panicking about them.

hey, im sorry but im soo confused by how your overall degree is calculated..

im doing an arts degree, 3 years, does this still mean they can only take my 2nd year results as a 30% weight for my final overall grade or is this only for 4 year courses and my 2nd and 3rd year are split 50:50?? :/

Your third year results, if they're better than your second year results, will be your degree result.
If your second year results will improve your overall grade, then they will weight them as 30% of your final grade. But it's automatic, and only to your advantage.

Only 12 days (max) to go, so just close your mind and don't think about it for a while!!

Oh God, I'm dreading these results. I had to compensate for three first semester modules. If I fail, my mam's gonna kill me.

Apologies, miscommunication on my behalf. They got their results from the course coordinator it turns out. By the time that worked it's way around the rest of the class there was a few extras added in.

Well just a few days now. The notice on the examinations office webpage say Thusrday... however in past years they've always come out on the Wednesday online, usually 2pm in the afternoon (after the exam board meeting or something?)

Usually someone knows details about that meeting, times etc... Anyone able to provide any info this year?

    ^^ The 24th is a Friday, isn't it?

Never mind just saw the document here.
