Is this another bout of "recreational rioting" as they dubbed it last year, or is it something more serious?

Just wait, I bet it's gonna kick off at interfaces all over the place this summer after this.

Is it raining? You'll have to state the obvious for me I'm afraid. :)

And yup, it's not looking like a fun summer on the way. Thankfully most of my family would be in areas that aren't as bad they used to be.

Much more serious. The UVF, supposedly on ceasefire, are behind this. They organized and orchestrated this, and "invaded" for want of a better word, Short Strand. They sent in their own people too in masks, camos and gloves.

This is not just youths out battering each other.

Unfortunately it's looking a bit more serious than that to me at least. Yesterday was clearly organised.

I genuinely don't know, I thought they would be straight in like they are in Ardoyne.

Fair enough, just making sure I wasn't missing something. :pac: To be perfectly honest I'm surprised it was allowed start again tonight and I'm not talkin about the cops either.

Mmmm that's some good sectarianism  . Ah you'll be fine, just stay north, west, or south and all will be well.

Police are advising members of the media to leave East Belfast because it's not safe as reported on the news.

Belfast is always tense. This is nothing compared to what it used to be.

And people want that as part of our country. No thanks.

I just logged on to the Newsletter website there to see if they had a report on the riots. Unsurprisingly its not on the main headlines, its tucked away under a different section.

Came across the below article as well. What chance has the province got when those in power are the worst sectarian offenders?

Really is time to stop listening to the carping of these thugs and the absurd confection that this criminality has some valid cultural basis. Bang them up for a long time.

As long as it drags Louth/Leitrim/Cavan and Monaghan away with it too. :D

How are we meant to keep Donegal?

They really do need to get working on that device which can separate NI from the rest of the island and set it adrift towards the Arctic.
    Thanks for the support. :D

One obviously hesitates to ask if it'd be the same if it were the other way around.

Sadly, it doesn't matter which side are rioting. Lots of law and little or no order. All the way through "the troubles" rioting thugs were allowed to riot to a certain level before the RUC/British Army intervened. Mass arrests and mandatory prison sentences - with hard labour - are the only answer. Will it happen, will it hell - the lunatics took over this asylum decades ago.

This is not the normal mini rioting you get every summer. Its a response to HET investigations into loyalists.

A few months back there was something similar, buses hijacked and burned out, some reports of gunmen in masks. Was contained in a loyalist area though. Attempting to invade a Catholic enclave is definitely upping the ante, unfortunately it will swell the ranks of recreational rioters at the annual Ardoyne madness in three weeks time.

HET has been investigating loyalists for a long time. Actually, its been one sided in that regard. It wasn't in a response to that.

Its coming to a head now though. Perhaps parade restrictions played a part but its mostly to do with the HET.

What do you think caused such an organised riot yourself?

I think to try and throw it into one category like the HET is not how it is. I won’t go into on AH though.

There's been similar instances of this during the 'peace' era so hopefully it will pass.

As depressing as it sounds, there maybe something in the Northern Irish / West of Scotland psyche that enjoys this sectarian rubbish.
I think the Majority are just youths out for "a laugh", the same with a majority of riots, the oppurtunity to lob rocks and petrol bombs at somone can be "fun"...

    recreational violence...

Cant see any thread here regarding the riots up North. Whats everyone take on it? UVF blamed for most of it, though there are reports an IRA gunman shot that media guy in the leg. I cant see there ever been any real peace up north. The recession could be possibly blamed in parts for this kicking off again. I think if people had steady jobs and less time to be coerced into throwing petrol bombs or dealing drugs then these troubles really would be a think of the past.

Personally as a non violent republican Ive always detested these splinter groups and their BS faction rivals doing violence onto others in the name of religion or nationality. England needs to take a more proactive approach with their little 6 county dominion they created up north while it would however impossible I think Tri colour Irish people living up there should up root and move south and just and let them have that mess.

I think its time the loyalists went back home to Britain, this **** is getting ridiculous, what an absolute mess the Brits made bringing these sectarian bigot scumbags over here, its time they manned up and fixed the mistakes they made.
