Reading about the off licence thread got me thinking, what would Ireland be like if had 24 hour bars, would antisocial behaviour go down by people leaving at their own time?

It would probably look a lot like this pic from the 3 Months later thread!

You'd have drunk people on the roads 24 hours a day instead of just 6 hours per weekend.

You would have people coming in smelling of drink to work and that would be right at all..oh wait, happens already! Novelty would probably wear off after a while I'd say.

Antisocial behaviour probably would stay much the same.

Pubs would make more money thats for sure. More people will call joe duffy about not being able to sleep with the fights and trouble making more spread out over the night.

2 hours worth of sh1te films being shown every day is more than enough. You'd need 24 hours of drinking to forget about some of the tripe being shown these days

    Joe Duffy 24/7?

People would be only calling in to complain that the beardy bollocks is always on the radio!

There would'nt hoardes of drunks herded onto the streets at closing time looking for fights, more drinks, taxis etc.

they'll leave of their own accord to look for fights or be kicked out of the place. a trouble maker is a trouble maker regardless of what time they walk out the door of a pub

We'd see a sequel of this.

Everything should be allowed to be 24/7. What we have in Ireland is an unofficial curfew, with the Gards clearing the streets of Dublin at around 4am. It's ridiculous.

    harder

anyway, panic drinking slowed down with late licenses. it should happen but for all pubs. it never will though, long as Nightclubs are owned by politicians and/or their supporters.

I'd be dead by now, or at the very least unemployed/able.

minimizes the amount of peoples on the street and in take aways so therefore less fights due to the large amount of people leaving the clubs at the exact time

It would make absolutely no difference whatsoever

    Drunks will get drunk

    Others won't

Can't see it happening any time soon, if anything we seem to be going back in time with a lot of places closing earlier.

    I have to agree..

    also..

How about a phased in system of categorising bars say: A,B,C A=2am, B=4am, C=6am to start off with, I think it would encourage people to slow down their drinking, or go home voluntarily when they want to, not when big brother tells them too.

Its silly really - Should be allowed close whenever they like - less people on the streets, more taxi's available, less binge drinking, hospitals not being inundated with emergencies at 2.30am approximately.

pubs should be allowed 14hrs a day - they should have to state on the licence what there opening hours are every year.

In carlow - 3-5k people are landed on the street every weekend. Thats 1 street by the way. It makes the mind boggle.

it would come down to supply and demand, certain pubs business may filter out at midnight, others earlier and others later. No publican will justify staying open till 6 in the morning unless business is good. Not everyone will stay out all night with work the next morning.

It works in Europe and is a more enjoyable experience. no queues for taxi's or food where emotions can get irrational and volatile.
