I remember watching golf as a boy and hoping for a top 10 in a major from Darcy, Feherty, Walton etc. If you told me back then we would have 3 different major champions from this island, within a 4 year period, sharing 5 majors between them, including the 2 notoriously difficult ones to win as Europeans (US Open & USPGA)....I would have said "dream on"

    Outstanding stuff.

    Don't talk s***e.
Fan threw flag as he was being marched by.
While adjusting his cap, said flag landed on him while the guy beside him was chatting to him.
A double team of that guy and the 9' tall ranger whipped the flag off him in, oh I'd say about half a second...

    Well done Rory.

To be honest I had my doubts at the start of the week whether he could get it done (especially after what happened at Augusta), but in truth he never looked like losing from Thursday onwards.

His iron play was sublime. Barely missed a shot all week.

    Loads of reaction on twitter
"Rory McIlroy's emphatic win in the US Open is one of Northern Ireland's greatest sporting moments." Peter Robinson.
Another European wins a major it's incredible to see that list grow. I hope it continues.

    Very important one I think
It's important that anyone under 30 realises there was a time when Irish people never won anything. 2nd, sometimes. 4th, yes. Last, usually.

Will the tee shot on 10th in round 4 be European tour shot of the year?

Or the first putt on 18th ( round 4),

Or the eagle in round 2?

    Or

    Or

Look he will just win that acolade no matter what..

Rory's stats: Hit 36/56 fairways (64%), 62/72 GIR (86%), and averaged 1.65 putts per hole all week. Just 2 bogeys and a double in 72 holes.

I'm off to play Congressional on WGT :D

Someone face-swap the guy on the right for the Ryder-Cup-Tiger-Woods-Cigar-Guy.
I'm tired and am off to bed. I expect it done and to be an internet phenomenon by the morning...

I'm not a regular around the Golf threads, truth be told i'm not really into golf but I have to say I am delighted for Rory McIlroy, he seems like a genuine, down to earth lad.

    Well done Rory!

My thoughts go out to Sean Bateman at this time. I look forward to your return to the golf forum for the comedy value.

I thoroughly detest people like him who post such utter drivel with such conviction. If anybody who watches golf in any meaningful way hasn't been able to recognise the rare ability of Rory McIlroy over the last few years, then I would suggest choosing a new sport to watch. Indeed, stay away from sport altogether.

Massive congrats to McIlroy, he just blew everyone away this weekend with a performance that was truly unbelievable.

"let's have a little look at some of the records McIlroy set this week.
Lowest four-round score at the US Open, his -16 268 bettering Jack Nicklaus (1982), Lee Janzen (93), Tiger Woods (2000) nad Jim Furyk (2003).
Record for most strokes under par.
Quickest ever to reach -10 (after 26 holes), first player ever to reach -17, lowest 36-hole total of 131, equals biggest 36-hole lead of six shots set by Tiger Woods in 2000, lowest 54-hole total of 199, lowest 72-hole total of 268.

I think you call that domination."

Is Jason Day the new Westwood/Montgomery/Norman? :pac:

20 players finishing under par must surely have been a U.S open record as well?
