Its really not Joes day, although 13 of the rest of his team havnt scored yet I think..

Be some tough route in the qualifiers with the Dublin/Galway (Most likely Galway) loser and Cork and Limerick hanging around in there.. And the slight possiblity of Tipp joining them.

So looks like one side of the qualifier draw will consist of Galway/Wexford vs Limerick/Clare or Tipp (most likely Clare).

Have to admit, after seeing Galway tonight, I'd love Limerick to get a crack against them. Wexford have been the bogey team for Limerick down through the years and I wouldn't be too comfortable meeting them. So ya, Galway v Limerick would be a nice fascinating game.

Hopefully for me it'll be Wexford you'll be facing and not Galway :P.

Anyway, am delighted with how the footballers have gotten on so far this year. Hopefully they can beat Carlow next week to secure a Leinster final place.

Ah, Wimbledon, always a good time of year =P, will miss most of week one though due to the last few exams. Pity, as I would've liked to have had the novelty of being able to watch an Irish person in it :D

Oh, didn't realise the draw had been made. I think playing Limerick is Wexford's best shot, but home advantage will aid you guys a lot (although we'd be going into any match against those 3 teams as underdogs!). Hopefully we put up a good performance at least.

Gwaan the Banner. We are in with a serious chance of beating Galway after todays performance :)

If Niland wins his 1st round game then he'll be playing Federer in the 2nd round (if/when he wins that is)

Thanks. I was looking for it on BBC but they aren't showing it.

    Hope he wins now!

He's doing rather well so far (up one set), and the crowd seem really supportive. \o/ I'd love to see him against Federer - he'd have a great shot at being on Centre/Court 1, and on BBC. Now if he can just win 2 more sets, that could happen! :)

I know nothing about tennis but why isnt he able to serve the ball over the net?
Its it a lot harder than it looks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,383 ✭✭✭Aoibheann

It's not quite as easy as it looks to get it to go where you want, no! :pac:

    Curses, 1 set all. :(

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 7,853 Mod ✭✭✭✭suitcasepink

Well yea I know it wouldnt be simples :P
But he seems to have more bother with it than I thought professionals would, or atleast more so than the other guy is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,849 ✭✭✭bluejay14

And it was going so well there for a while and everything.....

Niland has 6 double faults compared to the other fella's 2...I think he needs the net lowered a bit.He can't seem to get anything over it...

Federer's taken the first set 7-2 on tiebreak.

Well, his first serve percentage in the second set (I dunno about the first) was 60%, and I've seen people serving worse and still winning the set (see Andy Murray, his first serve % has a tendency to be not so amazing at times). He would want to watch the double fault count. I have to say though, I think Niland's returns, particularly in the first set, have been fantastic at times.

He's just broken back in the third set there, good man.

EDIT: This article is good, I didn't realise that there was such a push for a wildcard for him:
Calls for Niland to be awarded a wild card were led by Andy Murray but even though he was ranked higher than every Briton other than Murray, he was overlooked.

Glad he still made it without one!

    ;_;

I do not like him. I can watch his game and admire it, but from interviews I've seen of him, he hasn't come across well. He has improved in that regard (used to be almost insulting about some rather talented players, but seems full of praise for them now - seems a bit two-faced. :(), but I can't warm to him. The man does play beautiful tennis though.

You'll definitely see better, with players keeping it around the 70% mark regularly - the guys with high ace records like Roddick and Karlovic tend to have very impressive first serve percentages.

If Niland doesn's stop being broken and then breaking back I think I'll have a heart attack sometime before the end of this match.....

Despite all the double faults though he is playing fairly well.:)

I never watch tennis either but that Mannarino dude makes some weird noises.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,383 ✭✭✭Aoibheann

The grunting is annoying, but the women who shriek make my ears hurt (I tend to mute the TV anytime Sharapova plays, for instance!).. >_<

EDIT: Niland did really well fighting back from being down a couple of set points on his own serve to now being 6-5 up in the set. Now to hope he can break Mannarino's serve, or win the tie-break if it comes to that.
