Another almost flawless round. Very controlled.

    Hope he sees it through.

One more good round and he has won it. I think it would be great for this island overall if he won it. Regardless of his politics.

anyone else kinda glad he hasn't tweeted since the tournament started? he was tweeting everyday after each masters round, maybe it was a small distraction.

Politics doesnt come into it anymore, nor does religion. We have grown up as a country since the Good Friday Agreement, we now accept each other regardless of place of birth, Country of Allegiance, religious views.

    COME ON RORY MY SON

:p it's working, he's just to busy watching hangover 2 and other dvds and trying to win the u.s open with a 8 shot lead :p

Very controlled performance last night, the way he chipped out on the third and still made par was great to see and showed the maturity in his play. Hopefully he can do the same this evening, no need to do anything crazy and if he's in a bad position just take your medicine and limit the damage.

    You shouldn't joke !
2 double bogyes from Rory, 1 birdie from Westwood, say in the first 6 holes,
would leave the lead to 3 ... it's happened before

He's only covering his arse. Surely watching a newly released movie on laptop or DVD would be piracy?

Harrington out with Kaymer at 17:20 irish time.

    Can Harrington get under par??

Odds on they've set it up penal to try to bring the scoring back a bit. They set it up short and accessible yesterday to try to give the field a chance to put in a challenge - Mcilroy foiled that by putting in a score himself. It could be that a final day 80 will be good enough for Rory. Put yourself far enough ahead so that you can win even if you have a final day collapse and card 80. Good thinking.

I don't know who calls the shots in the world of golf but with golf needing a new superstar to take over from Woods i don't think the powers that be would be too eager to reign Rory in right now.

Big Big Big day for Rory. If he does it today and I believe he will he could go on to dominate the game as Tiger did

If they go for though pins, lengthen the course, you would have to say it can only be lost by Rory via a "complete" meltdown.
If they set up as in R3, then a few decent scores could be posted, gap closed, and maybe a "mini" meltdown by Rory will make it interesting.

If I was them I'd set the course up for low scores

It's the USGA in this case and they are very keen on maintaining the US Open's reputation as the toughest test in golf. They normally aim to have a winning score of around par. In this case, they will probably content themselves with trying to get the field bar Rory down to something like that score - they could handle a dozen or so players being under par, but if half the field is under par, they would feel that they had let their standards down.

My bet is that Rory shoots something like 69 and wins by 12.

It's a big day for Rory but I don't see anyone getting close to him. He'll play within himself and still romp home. Might just pop down to Holywood and see if I can gatecrash the celebrations.

Looks like it will be the second British win at the US Open in a row. ;)

Sang-Moon Bae has 5 birdies on the front 9. There are low scores out there again today.

Harro birdies the 1st. The charge is on

Eurosport have Rory listed as British... Surely Northern Irish would be the correct nationality... ?

Anyway, I hope he has a fantastic round today whatever nationality he chooses to play under. What an awesome player
