Garrigus must have an awful sore back at this stage.

Wow, everybody is shouting for him.

I was reading the paper this morning, and the writer was surprised with the fact that the American public were rooting for McIlroy to win over any of the Americans in the field, think it was because of the way he came out after the Masters and handled himself excellently

Love seeing that. A player going full pelt with a 3 wood. Great shot from Yang.

I think everybody expected him to come back but to do it so quick is a mark of him.

    PS. That'll do.

ok, just throwing this out there....

given that this course has been decidedly soft for a US Open.. has rory been on another level... or has the opposition been very average. not seeing particularily awesome approach shots from any today (with the exception of garcia, westwood & mcilroy ).

rorys playing superbly, i mean im delighted... but im not seeing pin seekers from anyone else

Come off it man. 8 Strokes clear after 3 rounds of a major is serious golf - end of story.

    +1.

His Thursday evening, Friday morning golf was outstanding.

As I mentioned earlier, no one has caught his first round total.

We've seen lots of players stick a shot here and there but Rory has just been so consistent. He is playing on another level this week.. his driving has been spot on leaving him well-placed for his approach shots to take advantage of the soft conditions. He was unlucky with 4 or 5 putts today that slid just by.. he could easily be 12 shots clear.

The course has been a bit more receptive for a US Open, but a lot of that has been down to the rain that they have had. It is still a pretty tough test.If it was that soft Rory would not be 8 shots clear. What he has done so far is incredible - 199* blows for 54 holes of golf on a testing course. Only 18 players are under par - and there have only been 7 rounds of 4 under or lower so far. McIlroy has 2 of those and is the only player to have 3 rounds in the 60's so far. The only words to describe it are Epic, Phenomenal and Incredible.

*edit - and the first player ever to be less than 200 strokes after 3 rounds of a US open. Another record.
