Every fcuking time something gets a green light then the half empty brigade come out.

Nothing would ever get done with these fcuking whingers. They moan about infrastructure, roads, hospitals or hotels being built.

There would be no motorway network if these clowns were in charge - oh it might go through a field that has a badger in it - it's called progress....move the fcuk over or get run over!!

I'm from urlingford just down the road and the town has been hit bad with both the recession and the bypass. This thing is badly needed for temporary and permanent employment as half our town is either gone or going to Australia. It's an inspired location for greyhound and horse racing too because you can fly into cork and be there in an hour and a bit from UK or even bring across an animal by boat and hop on the motorway. I can't stand lowry but this is private money.

Las Vegas has 30-40c degree heat, in the middle of the desert and the most beautiful mountains/desert/landforms in the world- huge discounted outlet malls, shows, landmarks, practically legalized prostitution, drugs, guns, 24-hour alcohol served, etc - there's a lot more to do than just gamble. There are no rules in Vegas, that's why Americans go there to chill out. It's a brilliant atmosphere. 3-4 hour drive to Hollywood, LA. etc.

I can only imagine the Irish equivalent, backwards catholic influenced drinking/gambling laws - even if the place does get the go ahead, the atmosphere will be a load of crap. Irish tourism should stick to what it is - reduce costs of resteraunts, hotels, car rentals, and stop f**king ripping off tourists and we might attract visitors. Creating a 'las vegas' in tipperary just has fail written all over it.

Arguments against the employment of 1,000 construction jobs over the next 3 years?

Arguments against the creation of 1,000 - 2,000 jobs for local people well into the future?

Arguments against the collection of millions in taxes as a result of this venue?

Arguments against the development a world-class race track and a venue with world class facilities which will replace an old race track which is falling apart and does not have any appeal to visitors?

Remember that anyone who gambles online is doing so into Jersey/IOM registered companies (Boyle's/PP Gaming etc) and no tax is paid on any winnings. There is a huge opportunity for the State to make a fortune on Corp Tax, PAYE/PRSI, Income Tax, VAT, stamp duty on the building etc etc..

PROGRESS people, it's all about making progress and getting this country back on it's feet. Compared this development to any other hotel is nonsense. I for one hope this project is a success as I think the potential is amazing for this place.

    ???

Would love to know what car you are driving? I cant stand people manipulating stats to help their argument when it is clearly obvious that they are doing so. That also goes to an earlier post who claimed Thurles was two miles from here and H&J Hotel one mile???? Takes from the validity of your argument.

Where do people think this "private money" is coming from? Do you think developers just have millions sitting in the bank and they hang around thinking "what madcap, altruistic japes can I risk my own money on next??"? Private money me shíte - we'll underwrite it through the banks - if it succeeds they'll profit, if it fails we'll lose.

Erm... Wasn't our own Las Vegas supposed to be built in the hills of Donegal?

It will get a lot of business from stag nights and corporate evenings and the likes. Best of luck to them.

Still, I can't help thinking the full scale replica of the White House is a little tacky...

In fairness it's pretty well known - remember The Dubliners and Saw Doc's covering it!!

I don't know. It's the white house as it was in Hoban's time not as it is now. I definitely want to have a gawk because I'm distantly related to him, that's bias though I suppose.

Well it's hardly coming from an Irish bank, they wouldn't give you the steam off their piss even if you could change it to gold and give it back to them.

I think they missed a big opportunity here a few miles East and they could have called it 'Monte Carlow'!

What foreign casino operators? The group that started the plan was lead by the Irish owner of Dr. Quirkey's and included or includes local business people and horse trainers. Naturally, Michael Lowry is or was involved.

My point was that people keep saying "private money" like it was gonna come out of the pockets of the "investors" - it won't, it'll be loans etc. from banks we are gonna be paying for anyway, but if it succeeds the venue owners and bank share/bondholders will profit, where if it fails, it'll be added to the losses we're paying for. If you don't see that and imagine they're gonna put nothing but their own money in and assume all (or even any if they can manage it) the risks, you don't know anything about finance.

I think much of the investment is coming from overseas, but I'm open to correction on that.

What you say could be applied to any new business venture, but that shouldn't stop people who have an idea and the means to get it off the ground from trying to do so.

Anyone have odds on Two Mile Borris to be the location for The Hangover 3?

The lads go for a quick pint in the hotel and wake up on top of the stand in Semple Stadium with a greyhound, Lar Corbett and a tattoo of Istabraq

What boring looking casino. Looks like it was designed by a hobbit. They couldn't even come up with a name for it either? Why bother. Just call it Venue.

I'm not saying it should stop them, or any other business venture, I'm saying people should look at how finance works and stop saying "private money" like it was in their accounts waiting to be used and none of the risk would be shared by the rest of us.

You think they're gonna apply the same criteria, no matter where it come from, as they apply to homeloans and personal finance?

I am glad to see that the disaster that has befallen this country hasn't put off the good ole boys who brought it about. Nothing daunted they are going to put a 900 acre theme park and gaming venue in the middle of Ireland, one of the least favourite destinations in Europe at present.
Where are the required 1,000,000 million plus visitors per annum going to come from? Las Vegas?
If you seriously believe that destroying a large part of Tipperary to provide the most useless and fruitless form of 'entertainment' adds anything to 'Ireland Inc.', then there really is no hope at all for this country to move forward with some shred of dignity.
We sold the family silver to the banks, now we are going to use the money to gamble. Anyone see anything odd about this? No...?
As a nation, we're not safe to be let out on our own.

I think the venue is the nightclub at dundrum house a few miles away, probably wrong though. They should call it "Shefflintown, where everyone can aspire to greatness!"

While the finished product will probably look nothing like the video - it will create employment and could well be a product that is sustainable - best of luck to them, I'll certainly be having a few weekends away there, horses, dogs, golf, beer and gambling - yes please!!
