It may be a silly law ..... but it is the law.

And that's why people have no heed of it.
All it fosters is lack of respect for the judiciary and law enforcement...... who if right were right would point it out as a load of bunkum.......... they don't, so the element of trust is shaken.
    And that's a natural law.

Let me put it this way, if I was a mod, anyone trying repeatedly and with malice to pass opinion off as fact, would be banned after a few a few warnings!

Someone please make me a mod!

Either the flaming and digs stop or thread bans will be handed out.

don't ruin it for the people who actually want to discuss this.

    Final warning for everyone.

I heard Norris on the radio this morning explaining why his views dont constitute paedophilia. Some election campaign he is running !

I was fairly sure I was gonna vote for him before, but after this smear campaign, I'm definitely sure. This article by yer wan is just a shallow attempt to portray him as some sort of pervert. It's nothing short of homophobia, and I hope this campaign backfires on these people who won't just admit that they don't like gay people simply because they know they can't justify it.

Your comments on Helen Lucy Burke are really pathetic and heterophobic

OK then, what took him so long? He likes centre stage and he would have got it a lot earlier. Perhaps he was waiting for the wind of change to come behind him. Just like the fudging and fence-sitting in his recent statement.

Due process, and the Supreme Court valuing "Christian and democratic nature of the Irish State" over people's human rights. 1988 Norris won his case in Europe and only the FF/Lab government in 1993 found time to enact that ruling in legislation.

I would have said it was sensationalist at least and it was giving some just some sort of excuse so that they can legitimise for public appearances, their bigotry in some cases.

Just watched the TV3 interview he did with Ursula Halligan. It was on the news this evening, I wished it was longer. But it was insightful for and edited interview

@ Spread: Definitely no campness in this video :D

Norris says he is sorry for alot of his comments. Pity he can't just stick by what he really thinks, instead of issuing nonsense apologies.

Until David Norris admits to being straight, he is going to be hounded over every aspect of his sexuality by the "Christian" right.

Slightly OT, but can one vote in the Presidential Election from abroad?

Petty much sums up me too. Wasn't too sure who to vote for, but I'd love to see Norris getting in just to piss of the type of people that are getting a bee in their bonnet about that interview.

All Norris's comments and interviews are being properly scrutinised. Claims of homophobia or agendas against Norris no longer work given the position being sought. I wonder how many other skeletons Norris has in the closet.

It's unfortunate to see him backtracking on all his clearly held views. It seems the man will say anything to get elected.

The "Christian" right and the Daily mail like simple answers to complex questions, nuance completely defeats them e.g. all abortion is wrong, there should be a defined age of consent, gays will burn in hell etc. The problem for Norris is he has tried to discuss the nuance of questions, which is something no professional politician will do because of the influence of the groups like the "Christian" right and Daily Mail.

As far as I can see the only thing he has back-tracked over was calling the Pope (Cardinal Ratzinger at the time) a Nazi. He has tried to clarify his other remarks, not that a lot of people will pay any attention it seems.

But Joseph Ratzinger was a Nazi!

Indeed they are and so far by most, they have been found to be clear, concise and summarised into points of clarity.

    Say what?
So if he was not running for the position, claims of homophobia can be applied in that case or can work?

We could wonder how many skeletons anyone has in a closet - that don't mean they exist at all or in any large numbers just because your trying to hint there is some
The public can wonder how many skeletons exist in mine or your closet.
Just because you throw it out there, don't make it a fact there is some that exists in the first place - but nice try!

Its your opinion that he is backtracking - please show us where exactly he is backtracking?
I suspect I won't get an accurate answer to that question.
    sesna wrote: »

Or it seems anyone opposed to him for their own reasons, will say anything to slander him, cast disparaging slights against him and/or try pass opinion off as fact in order to knock a good person down.

Actually if everyone else reads the article he says sorry for using one word. Not as you try and twist it (again!) that "Norris says he is sorry for a lot of his comments".
Pity you can't stick to the truth contained within the said item!

I'm no fan of Joseph Ratzinger, but to be fair, I think this was something Norris should have apologised for a while back. He was conscripted into the Hitler Youth in 1941, as the law required at the time. So Norris calling him a Nazi was unfair and something of a Godwin's Law type of situation (I say this as someone who is broadly a supporter of Norris).

How do you know this? Even earlier in this thread it's obvious homophobia plays a part! And are you seriously saying homophobia won't play a part in who votes for him? That's as naive as saying homophobia doesn't exist!

Speak for yourself, but don't speak for all those against Norris.

    Post number 1341 by Phantom_lord:
What is your view on abortion?

The issue of abortion is always a sensitive, personal and emotive issue in our
society. I believe that access to information and education is the true champion of
reducing the instance of abortion. My hope is that both sides in this difficult moral
debate will respect each other’s differences.
