Great, means more chance of my ass getting employed!!

On the point of media printing negative news, it seems that they like to definably like printing more negative stories rather than positive.
Maybe its just good PR knowing that people tend to react in more numbers to negative stories thus selling more and making more $$$$.

Statistics are great. So easily corruptable. It's what Psychology is based on which is also completely corrupt.

Of course they do. News papers/Channels love bad news and love to drag it out as long as possible because the public tend to pay attention longer. Ratings ratings....cash.

And "No news is good news" You cant print no news!

i don't know many people earning enough to pay the higher rate anymore so i doubt it.
Jasus I don't know anybody not paying it. Guess we move in different circles.

Survey is useless and amazingly bias. Of the various different professional (approx 100)I have worked with in the last 5 years, 3 have left the country and none were from here to begin with.

seriously do we need this crap published? It seems the media are hell bent on destroying good news with bad news. This is not the sort of publicity we really need, yesterday you have large global companies announcing investment and job creation and then today you have it being published in the media "but out yeah all those people might just uproot and f**K off leaving no talent here".

Ah maybe you can't blame the media and that is the general public mindset...but is it? Most people I know in the industries of Engineering, IT and Finance haven't mentioned leaving the country any time soon!
    It's all the medias fault.

It won't be the moaners who emigrate though unfortunately. It'll be the good ones who go, it always is.

No, they definitely shouldn't publish articles for the sole reason fo scaremongering. I think the media sped up the recession. Back in 2008, all was fine until the media started saying "Recession is coming! We're all doomed!"* - so people got scared and stopped spending, shops lost sales, shops closed, people lost their jobs and recession began. I know that the recession would have happened anyway, but I think the scaremongering in the media (talking about it 24/7 instead of just on news bulletins) sped it up by a couple of months, something which we really could have done without.

It's depressing listening to 24/7 doom and gloom. I'm not saying they should lie or distort the truth, but they could at least limit it to news and current affairs shows - documentaries like "Ireland's Ghost Estates", "Living Through Recession", "The Financial Crash" etc. (TV3, in particular, love these, but RTE aren't far behind) are not helping! Pessimism will get us nowhere!

*may not be a direct quote
