Well I do. And most of them were not in any way instrumental in getting us into the current mess. The generalisation just annoys me - just because you work in a bank it doesn't mean you're responsible for the country's downfall etc.

    ah but you are

The downside to that is the state pays for educating these professionals and another country reaps the benefit of that education. We recoup the cost of their education through taxes and if they emigrate we lose out.

I got BTEA for 4 years, then emigrated. But I'm an idiot and came back :(

People who are being hammered by high taxes, social charge, PRSI, VHI (and soon household charge and water tax) see everyone from bankers to people playing the welfare system getting the benefit of their hard work. No wonder so many people are bailing out.

Ah but that's rubbish. Most people working in banks are way too far down the line from the decision making structure. They do what they're told, like anyone else.

    Anyway..

Warmer weather would cover up all the sweating they have been doing for cooking the books.

Indeed. But if we forced ALL the accountants to leave we would probably take in more tax

:mad:seriously do we need this crap published?

Is it not your own post that is 'crap' as you say. The IT article doesnt say 3 in 4 may leave the country. They are your words. IT says 3 in 4 would 'consider' leaving. Not the same thing at all. Not everyone considering it will leave. If one in 10 of those considering it leave, then that would be 1 in 13. I have considered doing a lot of things that have never actually done.
Maybe more striking is why are 1 in 4 people not considering leaving ???

    Let's not be too hasty.

Is an emigratory flood of solicitors, recruitment consultants; apartment balcony designers, wedding designers and estate agents such a bad thing?

Yeah, there's no-one to blame really. Everyone was just following orders.

From my experience the arrogance runs from top to bottom

Oh no squod, there are people to blame - where did anyone say there aren't? - just not, you know, 21-year-old cashiers doing a service many require and would be whingeing about if it didn't exist.

Your "experience" isn't worth sh1t. And no doubt a lie.

Exactly. For the love of God like. Think of all the people who work in a bank - HR, marketing, IT, mail room, branch staff, receptionists. Do you actually believe these people have any input into the bank's strategic decision making process??! They do in their eye. And most of them are certainly not 'arrogant' either SEPT 23 1989, and they certainly don't deserve to be blaimed for the mess we're in.

I'm not a violent person, but if some KUNT told me to my face I'm somehow responsible for this economic mess because I did temping admin work in a bank in my early 20s, I'd happily slap them. Lol too at the experts who know about banking staff even though they never worked there. Oh and they were/are happy to use the service. I know some folks get an orgasm out of blaming people who aren't to blame, but... TRY to use critical thinking - it'll stand to you.

    Because it's a blatant lie.

Does this now mean we should reduce the number of 3rd level degrees, tutors and lecturers.

Even if we should - will it happen - fcuk no.

    generalise much??

The key word in the article is "consider". Not, "would leave", but would "consider leaving". So the article is essentially worthless. Even in good times the majority of people would "consider" leaving. They'd also "consider" winning the lotto and how much fun it would be to kick their boss in the nuts. It doesn't have anything to do with reality.

I am suprised the number is not higher than 3 in 4 !!

It is phrased 3 out of 4 would leave if prospects were bad -I am sure we would have had the same response in the good times

I an not planning on going but if things got so bad I could not find work I would go

Yep, 4 years is usually how long an hons degree takes. Also I got rent allowance for 4 years, and dole over the summers. Oh and grant as well (only for my last year tho, because I used up grant during previous college attempt). Any mature student (that didn't already have a degree) could have availed of this. They have toned it down a lot since I got it tho, it's harder to qualify now but BTEA still exists.

Go for it. It's completely nuts, I had more income when I was in college than my mates that worked full time. In total it works out to something like e18,000 of benefits per year (figure was correct when I availed from 2003-2007, may be less nowadays).
