Why do some women pretend to be stupid?

Have you ever noticed how some will women will act thick as sh1t even though they really aren't? I think women aren't really rated for their intelligence so there isn't really any consequence if people think you're stupid. However women are heavily rated for their looks so does acting stupid make a woman more attractive?

It's something that really irritates me and I find it quite patronising when a woman expects you to fall over yourself to help her just because she's pretending to be naive and simple. Maybe it's just because I'm Bi(mostly gay leaning) so it doesn't work on me but it really makes me want to give them a slap.

I know what you mean OP, girl i used to work with was forever acting dumb and clumsy. Eventually i just had to say it to her. There's enough stupid people out there without a need for the smart ones joining in.

Obviously there are girls who are genuinely stupid but the thread isn't about them.

I don't think the girls behavior is stupid if it actually works. I do think the guy is stupid for falling for her manipulative tactics.

Yep, I think a lot of guys find it endearing and empowering if a woman appears to be a bit dim, so girls often use this to their advantage.

Question for the ladies, do girls often act dumb around other girls, or is it just around guys it's done?

Ah there's something fairly stupid about wanting a guy to fall for you under the pretense that you're an idiot. I'd call that the behaviour of someone stupid...mayeb not lacking in intelligence but somebody not using their common sense or wisdom, which is even worse.

How does it prove you are stupid if it gets you what you want?

I find if I let on how smart I actually am, men tend to react insecure or even hostile. Men, as a general rule and present company obviously excepted, do not like women to have more brains than them, it alienates and upsets them.

I'm not talking about a girl trying to nab a boyfriend. Just in general trying to get what she wants.

I've seen girls completely change their personalities once a guy enters the room so no, I've never had a girl act dumb around me without a guy around. Doesn't work with each other.

They know how to play the game. It doesn't take brains to act dumb.

What about those screechy girls in groups who jump around hugging each other? That always looked faked as fúck, is it just an act?

They look moronic but I guess they aren't pretending to be stupid just pretending to like each other much more than they actually do.

I think it's something put on to make the other one feel more at ease. So it can be put on around girls, but since girls tend not to be intimidated by brains so much, I think it happens far less often.

I think some guys don't want to date a woman who is smarter than them, as it makes them feel less "in control". I see it all the time with my two housemates, a couple. One has an MA in philosophy and one (the girl) a masters (don't know what kind) in maths. The guy, who clearly acts superior but feels inferior to her, constantly strikes up philosophical arguments (almost all of them concerning his own MA thesis) to try and show her how much he knows. The girl just plays along and doesn't try to hit back, I think it's more or less the same principle.

This is vert true in a lot of circumstances. Was at a table quiz last night with a bunch of boys...was mainly men there last night and the occasional token girl but I knew all of the answers in the current affairs and classical music round but did they listen? Nope. They listened to each other alright but completely ignored me so I sat back in silence and watched them lose.

They're just young and they grow out of it. Women don't act that way at my age.

I once beat a friend of my brother in Trivial Pursuit. He absolutely ignored my very presence for the subsequent 6 months. Still barely says hello to me to this day.
It's a shame, cause we did get along great before that, and it made for some rather strained situations in the pub.

And that's just one incident, I could go on.
So the real question should be why do guys act like dicks to girls who are smarter than them, not why do girls notice and dumb themselves down to avoid being treated that way?
