Its time to move forward and accept a candidate that has a different orientation, its the 21st century after all and we are more than able to take in David Norris and his progressive politics.

    No. I couldn't care less.
The more I hear about norris the less likely I am to vote for him.

No way man what sort of homophobe would let such a thing affect their vote?

It depends on how they acted.

    Louie Spence - NO

    Stephen Fry - Absolutely!

    No. I couldn't care less.
I'd say they worry about nothing else.

I wouldn't go that far with it, everybody has some maternal instincts at some stage in their lives, leaving them with possibly no other option but single sex parenthood.
It's a logical reasoning, unlike your general off the cuff quip.

Only if they're getting a blow-job in the Phoenix Patrk when an important vote is being taken in the Dail.

Wouldn’t bother me what team they played for, if it was a male president who was too camp, then it would bother me, if he was a regular gay man and not an over the top princess prancing around then yes i would vote for him regardless of his preference.

    No, don't bother me.
And I agree wholeheartedly as the above poster has stated.

Does anyone really are if a politician is gay or straight or a typical Munster* sheep shagger?

    I don't.

Poll in a minute or two.

*Get over yourselves. It's a joke.

I wouldn't vote for them as they have a tendency to pull the wool over your eyes.

Cases where it would affect my vote:

    1. People running for election pushing their sexuality as a reason to be voted for. Yay, amn't I so wonderful and liberal etc. OUT.

    2. People who are one-trick ponies, focusing on LGBTQRS issues at the expense of the rest of their constituency. OUT.

    3. People who let their own sexual orientation affect their position on political/social issues to the expense of all other influences/reasoning.

    4. People bringing the office they hold into disrepute with their sexual antics (goes for any sexuality btw - same if it's bunga-bunga parties etc with women or men or whatever)

Summary, be a politician for the people you represent rather than for yourself and I don't see why it should be an issue.

Aren't jokes supposed to be - you know - funny? Humerous?

Personally I'm in two minds because I'd love to hear Obama say that he's going to be in Camp David for the whole summer.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Who you sleep with/fall in love with is irrelevent to what kind of leader you will be.

I wouldn't vote for someone BECAUSE they're gay but I'd be more inclined to go for them since they'd probably be all for giving gay people more rights. But a straight person could be equally for gay rights so it just depends. I would not vote for someone who is against gay rights, though.

I couldn't care less what their sexual preference is(Or religion for that matter).

I only care about their political stance, views and opinions.

    Yes.

Sexual preferences like having sex with animals or dustbins would most likely have an impact on my "vote"

Or that thing where people like to dress up as big babies.

Don't get me wrong, nothing against people doing what they do but it is a reflection on me and my ignorance that I don't really get it.

    I'm not a homophobe but
I'm not a republican, but I'd want my leaders to be republican, fun loving, and not stuck in the ways of olde civil war politics.

Meh, Bertie Ahern fu@ked every last Man, Woman and Child in the country making him a homo, hetro, pedo and we happily voted for him over and over!

No, its makes no odds to me what people get up to in their privates lives once its legal and between consenting adults etc.

I'd love to see Norris as our el presidente. Just think of all the "up the Aras" jokes we could have:D

What difference does it make to the politicians job / views whether he / she is gay or not. If I'm into girls what effect does that have on me wanting to help the country !

David Norris for next president , he is such a breath of fresh air to this country !

Lets get him in the Aras !!

See, this sounds fair on the surface, but you seem to suggest that LGBT issues can't be pertinent, or that the issues that LGBT people face can't be of importance or shouldn't be focused on regardless of the need. This is a two-edged sword, for example, focusing on the economy aims to helps everyone. Yet I think you'd agree that everyone should have the same rights? And I'm not even talking about marriage equality here, but lets use access to medical services as an example. Wouldn't you agree that everyone should have the right to medical services? So it being a case that certain people were being refused medical treatment because of prejudice, would you not consider that an issue that would deserve to be focused upon, even if it doesn't effect the greater population? What about access to employment, education, social services, or even facing prejudice in public places?

If it were the case that there was rampant discrimination in employment on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression, and assuming that this was well documented and proven to be the case, would that really be a bad thing if a particular politician focused on that? So, I think it's pretty disingenuous to assume that LGBT issues can't be of importance or deserving of focus.

If I was going to be a politician in Ireland (and gods knows, maybe I will be? :p ) then I think some issues I would focus on would be the legalization of cannabis, secularism in schools and hospitals, and marriage equality. At least I'm up front about my agenda. ;)

It really doesn't matter what their sexual orientation is, what matters is that they do the job they are elected to do.

Did you actually think there would be a significant proportion of boarsies whose vote would be affected or are you just waiting for a troll?

One proviso: As long as a homosexual leader doesn't make homosexuality compulsory once they get elected, then it's fine by me.
