Does anyone really are if a politician is gay or straight or a typical Munster* sheep shagger?

    I don't.

Poll in a minute or two.

Not really, but I would care if a politician has poor views of other people's sexualities.

I'm not a homophobe but I'd rather my leaders be straight and handsome.

    Think John O'Donoghue fancied himself.

Wasn't a fan of that tbh.

I've read the leaflets and policy documents, but let's be realistic: is there honestly any other way to vote, other than on the candidates' sexual preferances?

Me and a few other transgender people from boards are going to start our own political party.

    We're gonna call it the T-party. :)

Seem to be trying to screw everyone at the minute.

    No. I couldn't care less.
I would infer that an out-of-closet homosexual or lesbian would be liberal and open minded, so it would influence me positively tbh.

Also if we have a gay president we can say "Blasphemy law? Pah! Look how groovy we are really - we have a gay president!"

It is irrelevant though since I never vote.

    Very poor effort, Links.

Can we have a competition to come up with a better name?

Sexual orientation for me is a non issue, unless they make it one, ie "vote for me cause I'm gay" type of thing, then it affects my vote.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 414 ✭✭apoeiguq3094y

Doesn't really matter, unless it matters to other people so much that it starts to matter. In that case it matters.

Does it matter if they are single? if they are playing the field? People like stability.

oh come on, that was gold, admit it! :D

but sure, you can come with another name, dunno if it'll be better though! ;)

I wonder if I would make a good politician though?

The party for people who don't know what the fuck they're about, where they're going - and how that annoys everybody.

A rough Irish translation gives you Fianna Fail.

If they are Gay, then they better not be the receiver. A receiver is not a quality you look for in a leader

Some excellent LGBT legislators in the current Oireachtas. A credit to themselves for being articulate and hard working. Sexual orientation is irrelevant. They got there on merit, they just happened to be LGBT.

    You're doing it all wrong.

You need to answer me with "I'm glad you asked me that..." and then ignore my question and read out your party manifesto.

Seems to work for everyone else.

    No. I couldn't care less.
I wouldn't have issue with their sexuality, but a gay person wouldn't get my vote because I don't agree with single-sex parenthood, which would be higher up on their political agenda I'm sure.

    That's exactly it.
Who gives a flying **** if some TD is having sex with his buddy john, or her buddy Jane?
It's all down to whether or not they are doing what they were elected to do.

Its time to move forward and accept a candidate that has a different orientation, its the 21st century after all and we are more than able to take in David Norris and his progressive politics.

I'd say they worry about nothing else.

I wouldn't go that far with it, everybody has some maternal instincts at some stage in their lives, leaving them with possibly no other option but single sex parenthood.
It's a logical reasoning, unlike your general off the cuff quip.

Wouldn’t bother me what team they played for, if it was a male president who was too camp, then it would bother me, if he was a regular gay man and not an over the top princess prancing around then yes i would vote for him regardless of his preference.

Cases where it would affect my vote:

    1. People running for election pushing their sexuality as a reason to be voted for. Yay, amn't I so wonderful and liberal etc. OUT.

    2. People who are one-trick ponies, focusing on LGBTQRS issues at the expense of the rest of their constituency. OUT.

    3. People who let their own sexual orientation affect their position on political/social issues to the expense of all other influences/reasoning.

    4. People bringing the office they hold into disrepute with their sexual antics (goes for any sexuality btw - same if it's bunga-bunga parties etc with women or men or whatever)

Summary, be a politician for the people you represent rather than for yourself and I don't see why it should be an issue.

Personally I'm in two minds because I'd love to hear Obama say that he's going to be in Camp David for the whole summer.

I wouldn't vote for someone BECAUSE they're gay but I'd be more inclined to go for them since they'd probably be all for giving gay people more rights. But a straight person could be equally for gay rights so it just depends. I would not vote for someone who is against gay rights, though.

I couldn't care less what their sexual preference is(Or religion for that matter).

I only care about their political stance, views and opinions.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 413 ✭✭The Left Hand Of God

    Yes.

Sexual preferences like having sex with animals or dustbins would most likely have an impact on my "vote"

Or that thing where people like to dress up as big babies.

Don't get me wrong, nothing against people doing what they do but it is a reflection on me and my ignorance that I don't really get it.
