The same way I deal with assholes out of work.
I can take a lot of crap from people but it will come to a point when I will have my say.

So, basically she followed the rules and marked the day she wanted off, you and yore ma decided you wanted it off too but hadn't marked it off and you went crying to the boss that you wanted it off??

Surprised the new girl hasn't posted here

Read the post. It was her night to work.
She should have approached the person whose night off it was, and should have arranged a 'swap'.
    She didn't do that.
    She didn't follow the rules.
Why should dhe be allowed to get away with it?

well now to date I have tried just being civil and speaking to him very little.
Then after my tips being taken and him reporting lies to a supervisor (who thankfully knew better than to listen to him) I just couldnt bring myself to be even civil and have just been ignoring him.

However there have been a could of spats over minor things. (oh I mentioned it to my manager.)

    Any more ideas appreciated!

The best way I find is to take the piss but not in a way that they can turn it on you, and say you were being offensive/incompetent. For my work, I have to be fairly courteous to the public and deal with any issues that they have. Some people can get quite arrogant as they see themselves as being above me. So, in return i just play somewhat dumb, but always professional, if that makes sense. If people don't show any form of respect for me trying to help them, I find it very hard to show respect back to them. Unfortunately for them, it's only themselves they're inconveniencing, as their arrogance doesn't effect my pay or mentality at quitting time.

i find a red trickle of blood out of their nose brings some sense to a arsehole,, i remember in work one guy was picking on the quiet lad, quiet lad said nothing, next he thru a 2 pound lump hammer at arseholes head, just missed, arsehole closed his mouth after that, :P

Iv only worked there a couple of months but we pretty much didnt get on from day one. However nobody gets on with him and Im not the first person he has tried to pick on/bully and he has stolen tips from others as well.

Oh Id love him to get caught doing somthing dodge! or failing that have someone bigger than me knock him out! :p:p
