    <<Thanks to the duffel bag…>>

    Warm Up – 2 rounds
    Knee taps x10 e/s
    Reverse Lunge x5 e/s
Groin Rotations x2 widths of the mat
Gray Cook Hip Pop Ups x10 e/s
    Bird Dogs x5 e/s
    Scap Push Ups x10
    Scap Mobilisation x5 e/s
Wall squats (normal & prisoner style)

    BJJ – 90 minutes

    Technique:
    -warm ups
    -guard passing rolls
-guard passing drills – same as Monday except instead of underhook you get collar and elbow grips
    -more guard passing rolls

    Rolling:
Only rolled w/ Anesh, Finlan and Amanda, and I spent the entire time either defending or getting smashed. Anesh spent about 10 minutes mounted, I finally hip bumped him, got an arm thru, went out the back and ended up in a f*cking triangle!! Was fighting it off when the round finished.

Same story with Finlan, pulled him to guard a few times, the rest of the time was spent in ¼ guard, turtle or mounted. Same thing happened with Amanda.

Dunno what was going on… Think I was rolling with guys who were just better than me that were giving me a rough time and not giving up positions. Even tho I spent it all on my back and was completely bolloxed by the end of it, I was happy out with how I did.

    <<See the sunlight…>>

    THURSDAY

    Warm Up – 1 round
    Knee taps x15 e/s
    Reverse Lunge x10 e/s
Groin Rotations x2 widths of the mat
Gray Cook Hip Pop Ups x10 e/s
    Bird Dogs x5 e/s
    Scap Push Ups x10
    Scap Mobilisation x10 e/s
Wall squats (normal & prisoner style)

    MMA/Muay Thai – 90 minutes
    -warm ups and drilling
    -sprawls
    -shadow boxing w/ partner
    -shadow boxing w/ partner & sprawls/pick ups
-5x 3 minute pad rounds (holding and striking)
    -1x 3 minute boxing round
    -7x 2 minute thai rounds

Better session tonight… I liked the shadow boxing drills and stuff. The warm up was actually fairly tough tbh.

Pad rounds were good… Died a death on the 5th and it all fell apart. Was flowing into kicks a bit better this week.

My boxing remains crap. REALLY bad. Like I dunno if I’ll ever get better :/

Thai felt a bit better today. Still not even close to be ‘ok’ at it, but at least I’m getting practice in now. Took a few hard right kicks off jabs because I was lifting my hands up. Checking kicks is something I need to start doing the right way too. Anyway… Feeling good after that.

I don't want to gloat or anything, but I've found a gym 10 minutes from my house with Eleiko bars and bumper plates, platforms, squat racks, dumbbells to 50kg, C2 Rowers, a reverse hyper, trap bars, med balls and a 60m indoor sprint track for less than 30% of the price of IP.

    Haters gonna hate.

I've been training there for a few weeks. Not telling anyone where it is though.

Is this a secret handshake kind of joint or open to the public? Those rates are insane!

    Shocking week of training.

2 hours of BJJ on Monday - back escapes and rolling

2 hours of BJJ on Wednesday - more back escapes and a 45 minute tap and change roll which sucked

Under Siege 3 on Friday was savage...

And now I'm sick, REALLY sick.

Hoping to be able to train again by Wednesday. Run in to the Munsters on July second starts then.

Weight was 88.0kg on Friday, waist was almost at 32 inches, suprailliac skinfold about 7mm

Weight this morning after a big dirty carb heavy weekend refeed - 90.4kg. Whoop!!

Now back onto another 2 weeks of hard dieting.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,981 ✭✭✭✭Hanley

<<That's enough for the back to break...>>

    BJJ

    Tekkers - 1 hour
-coach lukasz showed us some half guard escapes and sweeps. They just weren't going in at all

    Rolling - 5x 5 minute rounds
-started in half guard for each one, got smashed over and over again.
-pulled a couple of sweeps, most of the time was just spent trying not to crossfaced. I wasn't that successful

    Conditioning

    12 minutes of:
Two Hand Swings - 16kg KB to a 'comfortable stop'
    Laps of the mat x4

Absolute load of b*llox training today. VERY frustrating. Just didn't feel at all good rolling, making a ton of retarded mistakes. I'm blaming it on being in bed for the last 4 days and being off the mats sick for 7.

Conditioning starts back today as well. i've a plan in my head that I'm not f*cked writing down. But there's one there.

Sorry, I'm just curious how much the guy in the attached clip is lifting. I'm fairly sure it's in the place above. How much do those black and white Eleiko plates weigh, do you know? Some are thicker than others. Is he benching 180 for a triple, or is it less?

    Thanks

The whites are 5kg, the inside yellows are 15kg and by the looks of it he's using two more 15's and two 20's. Not sure what bar he's using if it's a female it's 125kg, if it's male it's 130. Hard to tell what the other plates are though, if they're 20's and 25's then its either 145 or 150. Somewhere in between those though.

    As Ste said, 125-150kg.

    <<I'mma unrobe you...>>

    Muay Thai

Warm ups - 3x 2 minute shadow boxing rounds + stretching

    Kicks - 300 total

    Pad Work - 3 x3 minute rounds, 1 to 10, 10 to 1, repeat for the round

    Conditioning

    Turkish Get Ups:
8kg KB - 5 minutes continuous switching hands each rep

Striking was alright today. Some good kicks and punches, some bad.

Conditioning was mneh... I'm just following Enter The Kettlebell. The 8kg KB's hella gay, but I'm taking it slow with my dodgy left shoulder!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,981 ✭✭✭✭Hanley

    <<Cancel the gig that I said I'd do...>>

    BJJ

    Rolling - 4x 5 minute rounds.... of sh*tness

    Conditioning

    12 minutes of:
16kg KB swings to a comfortable stop
    4 laps of the mats

Ok so 2,000-2,200kcals daily is great for dropping fat and getting to 88kg, but for everything else, it doesn't really work. Here's a great chance for everyone to laugh at my stupidity and call me a moron, but at least I tried it!

My dissatisfaction with training has been outrageously high for the last couple of weeks, I'm guessing it's linked directly to kcal consumption. Ive had no energy in the gym, felt weak, unexplosive and pretty much just lay there defending the entire time. Suppose it's good that I'm a bit more comfortable on my back if nothing else, but I've srsly had a sh*t time of it in training the last few weeks. VERY frustrating.

Conditioning was easier today. Did the first round of KB swings continuously for two minutes with no hassle. Will just keep pushing on with the 16kg KB til Monday and move to a 20kg one if there is on in Kyuzo on Wednesday.

    Belted squat?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,981 ✭✭✭✭Hanley

    Belted squat?

I don't have a belt that fits me and i've done nothing but roll my quad and work my glute to try and fix my knee for the last 3 days. I'm squatting, but it won't be big, good, or pretty!!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,981 ✭✭✭✭Hanley

    BMR of approx 2,000kcals

    x1.2 for general 'low/no sport' activity level = 2,400kcals

Training 6 days a week for approx 2 hour,s 60-70% of that time being moderately intense to intense - 60 minutes *2 hours *65% of that time active *7.5kcals a minute = 585kcals for 2 hours of BJJ/Thai (which is probably well on the low side)

Total daily requirement = 3,000 approx

    Diet amount = 2,500 approx

And I've been eating around 2,000kcals daily, <70% of my maintenance. No wonder I'm so f*cked.

    Up to 2,500 I go.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,981 ✭✭✭✭Hanley

And some goals to get and maintain - assuming 90kg bodyweight, if I can do these strength numbers I'll be happy enough to just focus my attention on getting bigger gunzz and better abs...

    Clean/Power Clean - 120ish kg (1.25 - 1.5x bodyweight)
    Squat - 180kg (2x bodyweight)
    Front Squat - 140kg (1.55x bodyweight)
    Bench - 132kg (1.5x bodyweight)
    Pull ups - +45k x1 (0.5x bodyweight)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,981 ✭✭✭✭Hanley

And my log is now officially 4 years and 5 days old, with every single workout in that time period recorded - woop!

    Scap pull ups
    Scap O/H shrugs
    Lying clams

    60kg 2x3
    80kg x2
    90kg x2
    95kg x1
    100kg x1
    105kg x1

    110kg x1
    111kg x1 (85.3% of PR)

    60kg 2x5

    *supersetted with*
'Stir the pot' on swiss ball x3

    Standing Curls:
    15kg DBs 3x12

I'll do an analysis in a subsequent post.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,981 ✭✭✭✭Hanley

    Alright lets talk numbers...

Bodyweight: 87.8kg (88ish% of my 'PR' bodyweight strength)
Skinfolds: just over 6mm at suprailliac, 10mm at abs
Waist: 32.5 inches above my bellybutton, 33 inches around my love handles

I said yesterday that if I could maintain a 2x bodyweight squat I'd be happy, and I'm sticking with that. I probs coulda gone for 180kg today and gotten it, but being the first day back lifting I didn't want to push too mad. My thoracic mobility and external shoulder rotation is a lot worse than it used to be. So there's a couple of things to work on too. I don't think i'll need that much work to keep my lower body strength where I want it to be.

Power cleans, I said if I could do 120kg or between 1.25 and 1.5x bodyweight I'd be happy. I'd like to get to a clean/power clean of 1.5x bodyweight so that's the immediate goal there really. Big improvements'll be made just by actually doing the lifts again.

Bench... mneh. 120kg was tough enough. With a bit of training shouldn't be that far away from 1.5x bodyweight and 132kg. I'll test all again in 6 weeks.

    My rough plan is:

    SATURDAYS:
    Mobility & Stability
    Cleans/Power Cleans
Dumbbell Bench *s/s* Single Leg DL
Shoulder stability *s/s* 2 core exercises
    Biceps

    SUNDAYS:
    Mobility & Stability
    Cleans/Power Cleans
Split Squats *s/s* Weighted Chins or rows
Shoulder stability *s/s* 2 core exercises
    Biceps

I'm only going to get to lift Saturdays and Sundays so don't mind cramming a fair bit in.

    <<Somebody call 911...>>

    BJJ

Warm ups, drilling and technique - about 60 minutes
    -tougher warm up today
    -did some top position stuff
    -guard passing
-ran back over the arm bar from last week, except pinching the hand and holding the elbow for no gi

    Rolling - 45-60 minutes?
-Did some rounds starting from back control, mount and side control
-Rolled some hard 5 minute rounds afterwards - really good session, upping the kcals helped a HUGE amount

    Conditioning

    12 minute round of:
16kg KB swings to a comfortable stop (2 minutes 30 seconds on first round)
    4 laps of the mat

REALLY good session tonight. Very happy with it. Rolling was great, energy levels were SO much higher and was able to battle out of stuff better and conditioning was solid. Up to a 20kg KB on Wednesday!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭Barry.Oglesby

Moving well, passing guard tight and heavy. Concentrate on just holding position on top more, especially in nogi.

    Wednesday is another biggy.

    <<Poison on my mind...>>

Muay Thai - 2 hours total

-quick spot of foam rolling and thoracic extension work
-jogging, arm swings, high knees and feet... the usual MT warm up
-shadow boxing 3x 3 minute rounds w/ 10-10-20 in between
-12x 3 minute pad rounds w/ 1 minute break (boxing mitts, thai pads, kick shield)
-6x 3 minute rounds of light sparring w/ 1 minute break

    Conditioning

TGUs - 8kg KB x5 minutes switching hands each rep

Striking was alright, moving around a bit more, did some technique work all the way thru. Sparring was a bit better. Still have an awful tendancy to just freeze and ball up when someone comes at me tho.

Conditioning was easy. Moving up 'bell next time.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,981 ✭✭✭✭Hanley

    <<Spinning around this new experience...>>

    BJJ - 90 minutes total

    Tekkers
    -warm ups
-arm bar drilling again, waiting for a chance to actually pull it off during a roll now
-100 jump overs and 3x5 forklift flips
    -did some light rolls... then...

    Rolling - 6x 5 minute rounds (I think)
-each round had active recovery component, jogging, sit ups, tug of war etc etc

    Conditioning - 12 minutes
    24kg KB - 1 minute of swings
    4 laps of the mats

Good session tonight. Was feeling rough and tired going in so didn't have high hopes but it all ended up coming together well!! The rolls weren't too bad...seemed to recover alright during them and remained fairly active during them too.

Conditioning was good... First time out wit the bigger KB. It was pretty hard.... Gonna just try and add some time onto each swing round until I'm hitting 2 minute rounds with 1 minute of jogging in between.

Once again, the added conditioning work is really coming to show on the mats. I can take people being more skillful and better than me, but I won't let anyone out work me.

    THURSDAY

<<who's the guy who had to die....>>

    Striking
-30 minutes of body boxing with push ups and knees up

    -Three 5 minute rolls

    Mneh!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,981 ✭✭✭✭Hanley

    <<Oh oh oh oh...>>

    Morning BJJ
-like 6 or 7 light 5 minute rolls in gi
-some guard pass work (whch I'm brutal at but just going to try and pull every time til I get it now)

    Conditioning
-5 minute of TGUs with 16kg KB

Nice morning sesh today. Bit more mat time like.

TGUs are a lot tougher with twice the weight I had been using...

I'm going to go on record and say this has been the best bank holiday weekend of my life so far. Training yesterday wasn't spectacular but I got some good rounds in. This mornings roll was absolutely f*cking SAVAGE. When I walked in and saw everyone in gis I was a bit disappointed cos I was looking forward to a good no-gi roll, but I sacked up and just got on with it, and it ended up totally exceeding all expectations.

The chances of me getting a blue belt this summer probably aren't that great, but I'm just gonna give 100% in training for the munsters in 4 weeks and then onto the grading in late July. If I'm not good enough by then, I'm not good enough, but either way training my a$$ off for it's going to improve my jiu-jitsu so I guess it's win/win.

Rolled more aggressively today. Said to myself on the way in that I wasn't just going to sit in guard and wait for sh*t to happen, I'd actively go looking for sweeps and passes from standing and I pulled some good stuff together!!

Lifting was quality. Didn't do a massive amount work, but I got some good quality lifting in and have something to build on going forward.

Now, to make burritos and have a few beers, go out and see the lads, come home and watch UFC. Have a BBQ and train tomorrow.... and then play some football and train some more again on Monday.

    Bank Holidays <3
