Havent been on in a while and this was the first page I came too! Very interesting conversation on TREYARCH vs IW.
I think both are good studios, however both have their flaws.

MW2/MW1 hit detection is far superior. By a long, long, long way. I will give you an example, playing a game of FFA yesterday, I centred a WA2000 on a players head, from 3 feet away, and the bullet failed to connect. Fundamental flaw. This lack of a basic and imperative gameplay mechanic, quite frankly makes me want to beat all TREYARCH coders. To within an inch of their life.

IW, Jesus where to start. LMC, Noob tubes, OMA Glitch, poor online support, hacker riddled, boosters, quick scopers, the list goes on for a while.

    However, I still prefer MW2.

If I was designing MW3 I would make a few changes.

-2 Noob tubes - For the entire game. Force people to use a weapon and skill. -One shot kills for heavy sniper rifles, especially the Barrett. Reduce Ammo available for the Barrett if its a guaranteed one shot kill.
-Allow modular weapon customization: I want more than 2 attachments.
-Bigger maps I would love to see maps that are larger, I think given the scale of some Black Ops Maps ( Array, Berlin Wall ) that this may already be sorted! Also if a magnifier is now an attachment, as seen in the reveal trailer, its probably needed! Bigger maps? I hope.
-Dedicated servers. Im not in anyway familiar with computing on an advanced level, however if it removes the dreaded host advantage, I am all for it.
-More guns. There really wasnt enough last time around, I want a **** ton of guns. There are more than 4 sniper rifles available on the market, please include them!

I hope I stir some thought, I dont post often hence the essay.

Food for thought on the IW/3ARC debate. Infinity Ward is not making this game. The infinity ward they have now is a mercenary group, not the core group who built it. Imagine going to see the Beatles and the only original Beatle performing is Ringo. A bit **** to say the least.

I see people complaining about the "hit detection" from time to time. How do you know it's not just a case of - the lad you're shooting at isn't really there, he's a few feet to the left or right because he's moving?? More of a case where you're just running behind the game

I mean, I see people giving out about this gun or that perk but it really doesn't matter what gun/perk you're using......the whole game is based on your connection  . I've won gun battles with some of the slowest shooting guns against say a rapid 74u/famas. It doesn't mean I'm better than the guy I've killed, it just means I have a better connection and the fact I'm moving he's shooting 3 feet to my left. It really makes me laugh when I see people that are hosting commenting on how good they are at a game when the game is connection based  There's games I play in where I'm literally IMPOSSIBLE to kill......turning on people and killing them, winning every 50/50.......again totally because of my connection.

We'll never know how good we are until everyone is playing on the same field.

^ very true, dedicated servers will show how good people really are. I couldnt tell you how many times I've shot at a guy first and pumped some rounds with stopping power into him and he's still killed me, he's not better, he just has better broadband and a lower ping time

I think you'll be suprised how things aren't so different on dedicated servers (Well... besides the lack of bull**** for EVERYONE). The guys that are topping the leader boards now will STILL be topping the leaderboards on a dedicated connection.... i guarantee it... at least i know i will :)

Magill is right, dedicated servers will improve things like killcam and if you have ever noticed you get shot around a corner when you look at the killcam your being shot and you die as soon as you turn the corner, that will be gone a long with stuff like getting caught on objects.

so will stuff like.......if I know there's a guy standing at the top of some stairs we'll say, now I now theres a guy there I can see him on the UAV, I know hes probably looking through his sights just waiting for me. Yet I can stroll around that corner and kill him. Because on his screen I never came around the corner or if I did I was literally there for a split second.

Yes that's fair......that's not an advantage

Just played a game there where everyone on my team was on a 4bar and everyone on the other had a three. Very even

    http://www.vg247.com/2011/05/27/spec-ops-and-survival-mode-detailed-for-modern-warfare-3/

the Spec Ops mode contains a progressive ranking system, matchmaking, leaderboards, and the above referenced survival mode on the multiplayer maps.

“All that stuff really fleshes out Spec Ops and adds in a lot that we know our fans are going to love, some of the most addictive aspects of Multiplayer,” said Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling.

One map is called Dome, which has waves of enemies coming at you in a “desert radar command bunker,” which looks straight out of the Cold War era. With in-game currency you can purchase a turret to help you out with said waves and attack dogs, some of which are also suicide bombers that explode after you shoot them. Same goes for kamikaze soldiers.

“You definitely have to change up your strategy as the enemy changes up,” Bowling said. “Obviously how you fight the kamakazi dudes is different from how you fight the normal dudes and how you fight a dog is different from a dude and how you fight juggernauts, they are not only big and armored, so they will just brute force come at you. But they each have their own way of being taken out effectively.”

“We have all been challenged. There’s such hard-core players out there in the online community and you hear all the stories about the 8-year-olds, 12 year-olds and 13-year-olds swearing and ruining the experience,” added Sledgehammer’s Michael Condrey.

“With Spec Ops, you can really get in there and hone your skills in a more confined environment. I think it’s a little more of an easy entry. I don’t have as much time as I did when I was 20 to be honing my twitch skills, but this certainly gives me a venue to experiment.”

Modern Warfare 3 will deploy on November 8 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Expect to see and hear more of it out of E3.

This survival mode sound class, looking forward to that.
Have played reach's vrsion and although I hated the main game / most of the multiplayer th survival mode was good fun with mates.

Lol have to laugh at certain posters view of MW2 as the "micheal bay" installment.... whiffs of jumping on the mw2 bashing bandwagon simply cause its the in thing to do these days. It had a lot of flaws but over all was simply the more exciting game to play vs blops. Something about IW , they seemed to give it that AAA sheen / addictivness.

One gripe I would have with all the official material shown so far is that it doesnt so far seem to stand out as much as MW2 did as opposed to mw1. They certainly felt like different games in terms of overall feel and actual gameplay. The mw3 material so far seems to be nearly identical in over all feel to the promo material for mw2. That could all change once we see gameplay footage of mw3.

Dont Know If This Has Been Posted:
Today, Activision has confirmed that a 60-second MW3 advertisement during tomorrow’s Champions League final between Barcelona and Manchester United will bring their largest ever reveal campaign to a closure.

The minute longer trailer will be shown during the final, which is to be televised on Sky Sports 1 and ITV. The ad will be the final act from Activision in regards to the Modern Warfare 3 reveal campaign – one which Activision has hailed as the largest ever campaign for the Call of Duty franchise.

The popularity and aniticipation for the game has never be cast into doubt, with the 4 mw3 teaser trailers which were released on May 14th, already generating closer to 8 million views. This will no doubt have been aided by the full reveal trailer which was shown worldwide and televised during the NBA Western Conference finals. Furthermore, Activision launched a huge campaign on MSN to target it’s UK market audience.

Activisions European marketing director, Daniel Green went on to say,

“We’re really excited to start showing our fans what they can expect from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, with over 7m YouTube views of our reveal trailer since it was released on Tuesday, it seems our fans are just as excited.”
