haha. why would they say that. it is clearly plagarised - who is the spokesperson - not Lucinda is it?

(unless of course Obama authorised it first)

It's plagiarism if you try to pretend it's your own. In this case they were deliberately using Obama's speech and changing it for Ireland. That's not plagarism.

Some people just willingly try to think the worst of anything Irish don't they?

Well i didnt hear him say... " as Preisdent Obama said.,,," or any reference. So to the audience, most of them assumed it was his own work. Plagarism.

I didnt think bad of it at the time - enjoyed the comedy of it. I was just waiting for him to break into an I have a dream sequence.. maybe that will come in the next speech.

    Oh for f*ck's sake.

It's a pretty well known speech. It's not Kenny's fault if people didn't know that.

If I make a reference to the Simpsons do I always have to say "As Homer Simpson said..." at the start?

Also it's not like he was submitting the speech for a college exam or anything? He didn't 'cheat'.

The man was referencing a famous speech by the visiting President. He might even have mentioned it to him beforehand, who knows?

It's quite obvious what Kenny (or his speechwriter) did. People (like a certain Mr. D'Arcy who has a well known dislike for Kenny) are just being petty about it at this stage.

Up until this morning this last week had Irish people feeling proud for the 1st time in a long time, now we are back to normality...negative BS,plagiarism which has taken a lot of the good out of recent events. Why would anyone bother their arse in any way to help this country with the attitude it has?maybe we deserve what we get!!!!

......it appears that the real mistake Enda made was thinking the Irish people are more intelligent than they really are!! I'm surprised that people have been so quick to return to the misery and sh**e! So bloody what if enda used obamas words..I'm mean really ..what harm? Are we that petty in ireland that so many people are getting worked up over this...I despair!!!!

Knew there was something odd about it, thought he watched Braveheart too many times before he went on.

fair enough...but it is in the national news head lines - therefore I think its fair to say it is a big enough issue for some people.....maybe not you.....?

Was it just me or did Enda Kenny's speech remind anyone else of Hitler at Reichstag?

Exactly what I thought, at the end I was giving "Sieg Heils" for all I was worth!!

Kenny should have done the speech in an American accent

+1 to all that. Some of the posts on here say more about the intelligence of the posters (and little Raymondo) than anything about our Enda.

More to sell papers on the back of a sensationalist non-story, no?

I'll tell you what I took from that speech comparison video posted a page or two ago. No, not that this was plagerism because it wasn't. What I took from it was that Enda Kennys' oratory was not vein popping like I seemed to remember from yesterday. Perhaps it was the over amplified and distorted audio feed that helped to give that impression. I commented to family yesterday that I thought Kenny overdid it to the extent that it was almost like watching Hitler at Nuremburg. After rewatching I now realise it was simply a powerfully spoken speech with a bit of hoarseness in parts.

I advise everyone to rewatch the video of the speech.

ah come on...he was standing right beside obama, do you not think Obama would not immediately recognise his own words and have the cop on to realise that Enda was giving him a nod in his own speech? Do you really think that Obama would have stood there thinking " the cheek, this guy has just ripped off my own inaugauration speech - in front of me!" i would give him more credit that and also enda for having the guts to do it in the first place...how is it misleading??

Just because the speech by Kenny showed that he actually has a pulse doesnt overshadow the fact that it was a poorly delivered speech.

Does anyone actually think Bertie Ahern ever wrote a single word of his speeches?

Frankly I'm not so sure he would be adequately equipped to read if they were written for him!

You know the country is well + truly f***** when, with all the unemployment and all the "free" education and all the money the dept. of Taoiseach spends, the best they can deliver outside the front gate of Trinity College - which was a fine university once ( a long long time ago ), one of the best in the world - is a copy of a speech from across the atlantic.

That's nothing to do with why the country's f*cked. ;)
