Apparently some guy slashed a gardas face, stole a firetruck and went to ram jets...

Only happened a few mins ago

    Edit: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2011/0522/breaking27.html

Gardaí in Cork have arrested an armed man who tried to ram an aeroplane in a stolen fire engine at Cork airport this afternoon.

The man, who is in his forties, had earlier attacked a garda in Cork city centre and slashed him in the face with a knife before stealing a Garda traffic jeep and driving to Cork airport where he rammed through the perimeter fence.

The man then stole an airport fire tender and rammed a number of vehicles before trying to ram a parked plane. It is not clear if the plane he attempted to ram was a commercial passenger jet.

A large number of garda, including armed members of the regional support unit, arrested the man at the airport under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and also seized a 12 inch knife.

He is being questioned at Togher Garda station.

There are no reports of any shots being fired. The injured garda has been taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.

This sounds like a job for Joeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!

I was in town earlier, a few of my friends said he was running around Patrick Street like a lunatic with the knife in his hand before he hijacked a Garda car and made for the airport.

Saw crime scene tape around a BMW 6 series outside Brown Thomas later on which looked like it had been hit by said lunatic, the right side was dented in a fair amount.

As for the guy himself - he stabbed a Garda and rammed another. He would be dead in the USA. Hope he falls down the stairs in togher station, several times.

All Gardaí should have tasers for this exact reason.

i was in town today and heard he knocked down a padestrian as well..dunno how true that is though but thats what was being said. he drove up and down patrick street twice causing havock before he headed to the airport

Whatever the story is with him, he certainly has a sense of humour! The whole thing is hilarious. :D

The "whole thing" includes someone getting stabbed in the face!

If that happened to you, should we "ROFL" ?

    Sickening reaction!

He could have really topped off that rampage if he managed to get into the jet and take off

There is no excuse for doing this. If he has mental issues he shouldn't get preferential treatment by the judicial system. 10 years minimum for attempted manslaughter. Remember the dude in Tenerife that chopped some poor womans head off.

What the hell was he doing at corks airport. He should have been up at the fcuking dail with that kind of carry on.

He was tasered and carried off. Lunatic. Speedy recovery to the Garda. Lucky he wasn't shot and killed. A good show of restrained but adaquate force by the Garda. No doubt the bleeding hearts will be on saying he was maltreated.............

I cant wait to hear his defence plead his insanity due to being from a wrecked home, his addiction to H and etc etc. Not his first misdemeanor I'm sure so time inside should cool his jets.

How the fuck did he manage to get past airport security, and why the FECK did it take so long for the Gardai to arrive? It's a facking city airport for shite's sake, not a village in the midlands. That's pretty embarrassing for Ireland! Tis laughable actually, especially since the US security forces have a close eye on the situation here.

The guy got very close to running over those workers. His truck should have been blasted with machine gun fire after his first attempt.

I guess some soppy tampon is going to try and defend him here. "Oh what if he has mental issues..." Bollox. He should have been shot.

He didn't, he rammed the fence somewhere else.

In that video, he was only on the apron for 1:18 before the Gardai approached him. That's hardly a slow reaction. Besides, can you imagine the phone call? "Hello Gardai, it's Cork Airport Security here. We have a fire engine lose on the apron. Hello. Hello... No we're not taking the piss"
That's pretty embarrassing for Ireland! Tis laughable actually, especially since the US security forces have a close eye on the situation here.

If I was them, I wouldn't be laughing. It's not so long ago since an anti-war protester broke into Shannon, walked up to one of their military plans, spray painted slogons on it and had to call Shannon airport security to let them know he was there if they wanted to come and arrest him. The Americans didn't even know until later.

yes they should have, a dangerous and mentally deranged person after stabbing someone in the face already and ramming vehicles after 2 hijackings.....then drives out where the planes are at an airport

this kind of person is unpredictable and extremely dangerous, we are lucky the whackjob didnt drive out onto a runway with planes landing or taking off we could have had hundreds killed.

He should have been shot the second he crossed into the airport

    12 inch knife ?

clearly over compensating for something there :pac:

He wasn't shot. He was tasered and taken into custody. He was lucky though if he had tried that while the Queen was around he'd probably have been shot dead.

Obviously someone with a severe mental problem.

Well done to all involved bringing him in alive.
