In better news, I just turned silver.
Now I'm facing all the people that cheesed their placement matches, and continue to do so. Yaay.

I never really encountered this cheese everyone goes on about at the lower levels. What do you consider cheese?

A strategy that relies on one early-game move to win, and if it fails, so does the entire strategy.
I.e cannon rushes, 6 pools, worker rushes(although those are funny), sometimes 4 gate(most of the time it isn't though), stuff like that.
Interestingly enough, I never once got cheesed by a bronze player, but silvers and golds seem to do it a lot more.
I can usually hold off cheese, although it's annoying as hell when they manage to recover and win later on anyway.

Held off an early pool Zerg - last base scouted so didn't catch a figure. As I was playing Zerg, I thought I should go safe so set up Forge at front. Was in the process of building cannons at front as lings rushed in...Grabbed my surviving probes and sent them to safety of cannons. He got Probe fever rather than killing me off by taking out Nexus. 1 heroic Void Ray won the match

Why does no one "gg" - I think I only didn't once and that's because I got fed up of 6pool one night...

I stopped 'GG'ing or 'GLHF'ing simply because half my ladder opponents cheese like it's the last day of the January cheese sales. I don't see the point wishing ppl luck when chances are they'll just try to play like an ass!

Hmm despite dropping out of the boards league in a huff, I'm still playing now and then. I think I need help

Yup, can't even ping it from the command prompt? I'm on UPC. Was playing a 2v2 game and lost my connection to the server, but was still talking on skype the whole time and still have internet access.

This game is so hard when you're a complete noob like me. Played 4 placement matches so far just trying to go MMM. Last game I lost 2 scvs to his single scouting probe when he harrassed the worker building my first barracks.
Also must remember to clear the rocks on Delta Quadrant for the easy expo at the back of my base, such a facepalm moment floating it over there and going "Oh...".

I watch a fair bit of Day9 and Psy and so on so watching my replays is just painful.

i floated a base over once myself.. went to transfer scv's and didnt realise it for about 2 mins.. complete noob move i did..

Along the same lines........was in the middle of a long game. Selected my orbital command hotkey, not sure what I meant to do but mistakenly lifted up all of them..................didn't notice for a minute or so...... then had to individually replant them.........bugger!

So glad us protoss can't lift buildings :P

I'd say for protoss the big mistake would be to place the only pylon powering your buildings in front of them so that it's the first thing the enemy takes out. Then you're just sitting there with a bunch of "lights-out" extremely large paper weights :P

Slammed a maxed zealot archon stalker ball into a maxed colossi/phoenix gateway army, only 8 phoenix or so. 2/1 to 1/1. Rolled him, Special tactics. 2 base, 8 gate.

Slooooowly getting back in shape.
Won a practice match against top100 eu toss, was SO happy. Then lost next 2

Cant micro and colosus just **** on clumped up units =(

But overall happy

What are players doing at the very start of games to get there APM so high? Is there some drone rallying technique I'm missing?

You can do anything! You can just keep hitting the hotkey for making drones even when you don't have enough minerals. You can keep hitting hotkeys for different units. You can just spam the rally worker command. APM Only tells you how quickly someone is pressing buttons. So your APM can be 400 without anything actually being done.

I put my builing SCV on 1&2 (the one that will build a depot and rax) and my CC on 5. I then toggle between 1, 2 and 5 while mousing over SCVs (either in small clumps or large ones).

This is actually knowing as padding in Starcraft and it prepares you for the stuff you'll be doing later on - ie; spreading, selecting groups of units etc.

I put the SCV in 1 and 2 because I'm an ex-WC3 player and I find 1, 2 and 3 control groups significantly easier than 4, 5 and 6. I use that SCV to scout.

There's actually a bit of thought in my "spamming" at the start but that's just me. There used to a mineral trick but they patched it a few patches back

Bumping this cos I need to vent. Won 1 and lost 5 so far tonight, just about every time I was considerably ahead in macro in terms of bases/scvs/buildings, and my army control was awful and I lost all my ****.
So depressing looking back on replays and seeing how far ahead I was, and then the tard moment when I a-move into siege tanks or miss 20 banelings coming at my misrallied marines.

Huh, did the exact same thing last night; Xel'naga Caverns, stalemate game & had a huge army of speedlings, banes with speed & some infestors. A-moved them all, without scouting, into a staggered line of siegetanks, which backed up with upgraded marines. All because the Terran wanted to take a third. Sigh. Left the game after that boneheaded move.
