Why not take those who do want to work and train them as dole inspectors. They can weed out those who are not seeking employment (and thus not entitled to jobseekers allowance/benefits) and tell them to get f*cked. I suspect they'd do well at the job given they've actually needed the benefits while these scumbags claimed out of laziness, giving them a bad name.

That way you kill two birds with one stone.

These kind of animals people are still around? I thought with the massive amount of job creation and high employment rate that are around now would have eliminated these animals "people..

    I'm up for that.

I wonder how many of these threads were around pre-recession. Irony, no?

It's the ones who absolutely refuse to work I'm referring to. Those who want to work but are just unable to find work are absolutely entitled to Job Seekers' Benefits, but if you ain't seeking jobs you are, by definition, not entitled to said benefits. If you have worked, were made redundant and are taking time out from job hunting for whatever reason you should receive them too, in my opinion at least (I'm sure many would disagree with that).

Pay those who claim benefits to help identify those who refuse to work and just want to live off the dole. They'll practically pay for themselves!!

Is this a well thought out fix to economic and social problems? Obviously not.
Is it an idea posted in a forum that essentially surrogates for drunken pub talk? Ya.

Take it as what it is: generic banter.

Target the useless. Not people who are actually trying to get work.

I think the dole should be cut to items instead of saving the repayments for example.

Family with 2 kids (weekly) = 3 loafs of bread, 5 cans of beans, 2.5kg of potatoes, 500g pasta, and some other items.

A single person living on their own = 2 loafs of bread, 3 cans of beans, 1 can of peas, 1kg potatoes, 500g rice.

If they need a bus fare for a job interview, they have to go to the local unemployment office and request the return amount, no problem.

What else would they spend taxpayers money on that is acceptable??

And with the amount of methane produced from the beans surely it could be harnessed and turned in brown energy, eradicating fuel poverty and the burden on the taxpayer.

    No, quite the opposite actually.

If you eliminate their ability to purchase alcohol, cigarettes, then they will actually be healthier which in turn would reduce their impact on public health spending.

Could boards.ie not just organise a Repeats Forum. Every week some bright spark thinks he/she has come up with a new thread idea.

What is frightening about my suggestions are how they are dismissed instantly as "radical" or "extreme" where in some countries (USA, Italy + most of Asia) you would be considered lucky to have a weekly ration of food completely free. This sense of entitlement is partly what will eventually destroy Ireland.

Why not get us long term unemployed to train the new arrivals in how to seriously rip off the nation - for €20* extra a week we'll donate an hour of hard earned expertise in tips and tricks. While you lot were living off credit cards (ie. other peoples money) we were learning how to screw you over in style. Spending your cash is a pleasure.

    *completely under the table :D

It seems your knowledge of nutrition is on a level with your sense of empathy for your compatriots. They'd be in woeful health on your 1800's Irish farmer's diet.

So? You might be perfectly content to see people living in abject poverty so you can be a little richer, but that thought doesn't sit so well with me or a significant portion of the populace.

Our welfare system is flawed, no doubt about it, but "lucky" to be given enough food to live? Get the **** out.

Renewable energy is the way to go , everybody on the dole should be made spend at least 3 hours a day in this "renewable energy generating whee"l tm

what really amazes me is the amount of bad comments regarding people on social welfare entitlements saying they should sweep **** off the roads and all of them are lazy scroungers and taking my tax euros.

when in fact it's you the taxpayer that is bailing out the very people that robbed you "ie the banks" how crazy is that, and some of you people have the nerve to say that people on the dole are nothing but scroungers, lol look what you are doing as a taxpayer you get robbed and then you pay the robber for doing it to you. pretty ironic isn't it. alway's pick on the weak and vulnerable huh.

Some green vegetables? How come if you're single, you get rice, but if you're part of a family, you get pasta? How do they pay for rent and fuel and any other bills?

Have you tried living on €188 a week? It's not possible (unless you don't have to pay any bills at all).
