Well that was an epic lunch. Stuck on the worng side of O'Connell street cos the Garda wouldn't let me through. Had to walk down past Moore st and just as I get to number 16 some republican march gets there right at the same time (if you watching the news later look for the one chap who looks like he doesn't belong there... that's me).

Had to walk back to the quays after they wouldn't let me through up there then I seen some woman get an Irish Flag taken off here under section 6 (?) of the public order act (they must pull these laws out of their arse). Really if the Queen wanted to get on our good side she could have just gone somewhere else.

Have to laugh at Skynews. It isn't Sinn Féin who are protesting, it's the socialist republican movement "Éirigí".

Its a shame its not sunny, that would really get the phones hopping at Board Failte.
He, (a) gets up out of bed to watch the live television coverage of the Queen's visit, (b) sprouts anti-visitation posts on this forum, possibly from his own cultural and historical perspective on Ireland, and yet cannot speak Irish as a gesture when requested, and (c) is now tuning into to a British media outlet to catch a glimpse of the visit.

All the while, people who have no problem with the visit and with respecting another head of state, and are actually more culturally, historically and linguistically knowledgeable than himself are not saying anything, and yet it is people like him - who don't have a clue effectively, who are jumping on the anti-visit bandwagon.

    Now now play nice

We found that fairly amusing. The majority of them were kids to be honest.

Yeah down on Liffey St. Ironically she had an English accent.

Some people in the crowd waiting to get searched by the cops were laughing at her but I guess they don't realize what an affront to our country that is. The Tricolour is notable by its absense around town today.

I think the real disgrace though is how people like you along with your attitude have made people over the last 40 years or so run a mile from (a) the Irish language and culture and (b) learning about Irish history –instead associating such interests with “provos” and the like, as opposed to been a language and culture as Ancient and as interesting as that of the Latin language, or of say French culture.

And for most people in this country, from all cultural and social backgrounds – it is an honour to have a head of state visit our shores, much as it will be an honour to receive the President of the United States. You are a cartoonish and clownish buffoon, and people like you do nothing more than damage the image of this country in the eyes of others – along with the language and culture internally.

    mod: poster banned.

Quick question - why the **** is the British Queen laying a wreath "in memory of all Irish who have lost their lives in the fight for Irish freedom"?
Is it just me or is that highly insulting to us all? And don't even attempt to paint me as a 'looney republican' when I say this - how can she do that even though she and her army continue to occupy part of this Island?

I'm just looking for a rational debate here.

I thought she was laying the wreath in memory of the 50,000 Irish who gave their lives fighting in WW1?

Na to be honest I didn't catch it. Bit of a crowd gathered around and to be fair to yer one she didn't let it go quietly.

So you don't see the hypocrisy in carrying signs saying "Brits out" wearing jerseys supporting British teams.

Those lads are an embarrassment to the Republican movement. Most are probably thugs hoping to chuck a brick at the Gardai.

I don't understand this attitude, they want the British out of the 6 counties. They aren't trying to say that they want Britain wiped off the face of the earth!! You don't have to hate everything about Britain, to want the soldiers to go home!! BTW Liverpool, Man Utd, Aston Villa and Arsenal are all American owned companies now, Chelsea are Russian owned, Man City Saudi owned, Blackburn Indian owned, Fulham Egyptian owned, Birmingham is owned by a Hong Kong businessman, Celtics majority shareholder is an Irishman.

    I agree..

Section 6 of the 1994 act:
It shall be an offence for any person in a public place to use or engage in any threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace or being reckless as to whether a breach of the peace may be occasioned.

I see no way that can be used to take a tricolour from a person unless you wrote fu*k the queen on it or some other rubbish.

Taking either flag off protestors today of all day's is understandable. Even something as simple as a flag could be used to incite violence on a day like this.

consider a population of Ireland was around 3 million then
the US population is 300 million and they lost 58,000 in Vietnam over 10 years
and that was considered a huge loss of life.

No, she is doing that with the UDA lads later. Garden of rememberence is for those who fought and died for Irish freedom, a 32 country republic.

Depends on what she was saying/doing with the flag. Sorry to doubt what we're being told, but we are only getting one side of the story.

That's tomorrow, at the memorial at Islandbridge.

Today she's going to the Garden of Remembrance in Parnell Square, to lay a wreath and commemorate those that died for Irish freedom. I disagree that it's highly insulting. I see it as a concession that these men should not have died in order to gain our freedom, and a true acceptance of the Republic as a sovereign state.

Have no love for Sinn Fein, but I still thought that was a bit harsh on them getting accused of being those nutters out today.

In fairness though the audience would have no idea what they were talking about if they called them Eirigi, or even if they called the "PM" the Taoiseach.
