Had practice round there today, greens are lethal, think I heard someone say they were running near 12 on the stimpmeter. Looking forward to Saturday and hopefully Sunday.

Yeah we had lots of 4+ putts last Saturday after they cut the greens down to summer levels for the first time since pole forking a month or so ago.

Where are you guys hearing that its Sat and Sat? Its still Sat and then two matches on Sunday on our timesheet....

/edit confirmed that its still Sat & Sun...

Well done to them, really enjoyed that experience today.
Got there early and watched loads teeing off on the 1st and 5th, those people living in the houses along the 1st fairway must have some amount of golf balls in their gardens, they were raining down on them :D
Went first and thankfully hit good drives on the 1st and 5th with loads watching, knees were shaky with all eyes on me !
Conditions got tough with swirling wind and rain at times but all in all a good day to be part of.

12 shots clear, sounds like it was a fun day for all. tees were a lot easier than I was expecting though.

Not completely true. Dublin Mountain is as open as it gets and we were only 3 shots off making the Sunday match play

Wexford and Wicklow into the final of the Wicklow qualifier...

    Semi-Finals (Saturday 21st May)
    8:30 am - 1st – Wexford GC ? v ? 4th – St Helens Bay GC
    9:10 am - 2nd – Wicklow GC 3 v 2 3rd Druids Heath GC

    Final:
2:30 pm Wexford GC -v- Wicklow GC

Wexford have been in ages - Wicklow beat Druids Heath 3:2 with one match going to the 19th (not sure what the other result was but Wx thru).

Two best qualifiers head to head, Wexford were best qualifier and have been in for ages to dry off (many day) but Wicklow obviously have home advantage so should be a ding dong battle.

just heard from a guy that he normally bets with his local paddy power on the pierce purcell. I thought this was strange . How would Paddy power figure out the odds. I know the munster finals are Woodstock against Kanturk and Frankfield against Ballykisteen. Surely they are all similar in standard to get this far and that it will all be on the day if things click. How could you get odds from that. By the way he is putting money on woodstock to win out as he said he is aware of the type of golfer they have playing and finished it with a nod nod wink wink. anyone any thoughts.

My thoughts would be, if they're allowing him to bet on it then his record probably isn't too good.

I'm a Woodstock member so have to reply here ;).

I think nearly everyone thinks that all PP teams probably have their share of 'questionably handicapped' golfers ... whether that is true or not is anybody's guess. Woodstock have won the Pierce Purcell once in their history despite access to more or less the same panel for years.

I will say this in their defence, and perhaps this is true of other clubs ... The Pierce Purcell panel at our club are practising at a simply incredible level. Guys are out on the course 5-6 times a week, some 8-10 times a week. I met two two of the guys on the panel at the weekend - On Friday they had played three rounds starting at 7am in Limerick GC where the Munster semis are on, then played Ennis and onto our own club for another 18 in Woodstock in the evening. The panel have already played Limk GC on at least five occasions since winning through. So while I can't prove that there aren't any potential bandits on the team (or at least more than any other team) I can tell you that they are also working their butts off to succeed in this tournament.

Thats a serious amount of practice...maybe thats what the guy meant. Just for the record I wasn't implying anything wrong with woodstock as a team . It was the betting angle I was amazed at. The Purcell is recognised as the hardest shield to win. Only one club has won it more than twice. You get a disparity of handicaps ..young lads on the way down ...olde lads who were single handicappers on the way out. The golf at the purcell can be of a high standard for foursomes.
