As a Cycleways CC club member (not one of the clubs part of the league) would it be possible for me to ride this evening? I don't want to step on anyones toes... I'll wear a national champ skinsuit... :P

AFAIK tonight's event is being organised by IRC so they'd be the ones to clear it with.

You can race for me Ryan if you like, I am not planning on taking my start ... you just have to wear a orwell jersey and ride my Sz 44 bike. Thanks for winning.

Don't see anything wrong with coming along anyway and posting a time - i mean like it's a public road. Would also give us a nice benchmark as to how it should be done :)

    Agreed. Go for it!

Well that was fun with a 39*25 :(
Don't know my exact time, I didn't think to ask at the top and then heard people saying times down the bottom. Going by my garmin, 17:55 - 18:05 I reckon. The heart rate graph is funny 96%-98% from 40 seconds in.

19 mins dead for me. happy enough considering I've been on hols for the last 2 weeks eating and drinking my way around Thailand :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 885 ✭✭✭ryan_sherlock

13:38 was my official time this evening. A bit of a head/cross-head wind for most of it but the top 1.5km was really still.

431W for the climb, major negative split wattage wise (second half higher than first half). You can see my climb here: http://app.strava.com/rides/554851#8349322

I have also added it to strava so if you upload your data, it will give you splits etc.

Frank was leading it when i left with 13:22  (at least that's what i think i heard). I was in second with 13:46 (second in the league riders, Ryan got me in the overall!), happy enough with that. Never before experienced the sort of sensation i had at the finish, i was gone beyond pain in to some other realm.

That's a savage time. Well done. That's a 1:20 faster than last years SS winning time. Incredible. That's a scratch upgrade (and A2 not far after that) for you. I did a 15:07. Thought I could have got sub 15 but could not put in a bigger effort in the last minute.

Think i was still on the semi-limit list going into it, so i'm not going to scratch yet :D. How was your time compared to last year?

You will defo get an upgrade to scratch for that, (esp with the weekend result) regardless of where you started. I knocked 35sec off it. "could do better" ;)

Bloody hell lads! Yiz were really giving it some stick this evening. Those are blistering times. Well done!

I don't doubt it. But it was worth it, right?

Only 7 seconds shy of your goal, hard luck! Not to worry, you'll smash through that 15min barrier next year.

Seems like I've switched to orwell :o and thankfully the garmin (not me of course) calculated my time wrongly. Happy after a lot learned (with a lot of room for improving) with 17:39.

I'm happy enough with my time on the night (15.41') - I know I gave it my all, but I know I could've done better with some preparation. Disappointed not to place anywhere, but fair play to anyone who got up the hill, and congrats to those who did well. Sub 14' is insane.

Very happy myself with a PB of 15:48, 25 seconds faster than my best time on that course. At this rate I should break 15 mins in 2013, but someone here will probably tell me it doesn't work like that...

Ah ya, nothing like coughing up a lung for a few league points.

And you've earned an upgrade to scratch. Well done.

Well done to everyone, it's a real lung buster. I couldn't make it due to a cold - some savage fast times posted and a 1-2 for LCRC!

Epic climbing failure for me. Early panic getting round a jeep=in the red=Blowup!

Well done to tawfeeredux. Savage time by his team mate from Lucan. Does he hold a biological passport?

    +1 w/ elTonto
Give yourself a bit of credit! You did great! You got 19th overall, 2nd of your categorie, this is (probably) the biggest club league in the country and you've just started racing at the end of last year. There are some skinny guys in there that have been racing and training at pretty high level for years that you got very close to.

Second that. Frank Billings is some climber alright & a vet btw! He was 3rd in National Champs after David McCann few years back. Weighing 4 1/2 stone is a great help too :)

And here's a snap of Flying Frank in action, grabbing a Bronze in the 2007 National Hill Climb Championships (image is copyrighted, so linking instead):

[LCRC_BAX, was he second some other year also?]

Would be great to see him winning another medal this year, especially as a Vet!

You're right Keep Her Lit - he was 3rd. He's going very well this year, I'd say another win could be within sight.

Should be handicapping these lighter guys - give them lead boots I say. Everyone should have a minimum 90kg plus bike;)
