Yeah I was looking into buying that but I got the chance to drive a different SDI and I wasn't impressed.

It's a TDI, I was actually happy with the power until I replaced the airflow meter and realised the turbo hadn't been working :o

51 mpg so far arsing around town so I'm happy!

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,248 ✭✭✭Plug

Yeah your right too, I'd say the SDI is fairly dead. 51mpg fairly bangin'!

Lovely shine off it on a nice day.

It's a very nice colour in the Mazda 6. Photos don't do it justice. Only available in the facelift model.

    Is it the Exec model?

Well my classic has now been finally purchased

Its currently being given a mechanical restoration in Britain. Here are the preliminary shots of it after it was dragged out of its resting place of 3 years.

It passed its MOT yesterday after having a large amount of work done. More to do before I pick it up :)

Not sure how long I will actually keep it, my contract runs out in 4 weeks but I always like to have a classic for the summer months to enjoy plus it will most likely take an age to sell which gives me a good excuse to keep it :D

    :D

Mine currently isn't fitted with a Piano but a set of wide minilites would suit it better I think

That car has been idle/uncared for for (double for!) 3 years? Looks very clean.

It was in daily use for about 30 years. For 7 of those it was used by an enthusiast as his daily hack before he met a woman late in life who began to distract him from whats important :D

The clutch went and it got pushed into the lock up along with much more metal.

I'm not sure if anyone saw the XK120 Jag that was sold on CarandClassic a few months back that was in need of serious restoration but it was the same guy who owned this.

Anyway a battery was put in and it fired up straight away and runs sweet now. More work to be done such as a new alternator, it's already had a new rad and clutch and some other work done.

The gearbox was relatively new before it got locked up. Can't wait to pick it up in a few weeks. Not everyones cup of tea but then again I don't fancy driving Mini's and Escrots like everyone else ;)

Each to their own I suppose! If I had to choose a car to restore, it wouldn't be a Morris Marina, but I'm assuming it has some charm for you!

I just like BL stuff really.

I've owned and restored something British every year for the past 3 years, An Austin Maxi, Rover SD1 and now this.

I never hold them for long and tend to make a loss come sale time but I always have great memories of driving them around for the summer months to shows and what not. Great way to get to talk to people and hear stories.

Everyone has a different hobby I suppose plus their various foibles make them more interesting than modern cars which gives them great character.
