I've heard that asians are always a bit racist, but in particular against black people, i've absolutely no idea why though...
Yeah I've heard that too. But its towards anyone who isnt from their particular country. Apparently in Japan there are areas where white people arent allowed to go.

I was told it's very pronounced in New York, with the koreans and the blacks.

Yeah I've lived in New York in both Queens and Brooklyn and the Asian and Korean communities are very much separated from the Black communities. Where as when you are in Brooklyn you could walk 2 blocks and have gone from a mostly black neighborhood to a Latin neighborhood you would never see Asian communities living close to most these nationalities. Never really thought about this when I was living there.

I'm trying to figure out the reason for the question mark in the thread title, quite perplexing indeed.

And, I forgot to mention in my earlier post that with the Korean War, WWII, and the Vietnam War, there were many Black service men who met and had relations with women from that area. There are stories of half Black and half Korean/Japanese/etc. children being left behind after the war and finding themselves abandoned by their mothers because it was looked down upon to have children with the Black servicemen.

Yeah I remember Current TV done a little piece on it before, showing 'afro-asian' street kids begging at traffic lights. Such a sorry sight really. But I guess the same would have been done with children of German soldiers throughout Europe after WWII, only that there was no means of differentiating them on the basis of colour.

Yeah I agree and of course would not judge her on this, but the context in which she was using the word was to express her disapproval with going to America. lol so I dunno. She is probably from a rural enough community though in China and perhaps just not educated on diversity etc.

Unfortunately, the fact that a people have been on the end of racism never means they don't indulge in it themselves....The following story is from Hong kong

Wait till she finds out that Ming Flanagan is not part of the Dynasty!

...she might have been confused over the constant recurrence of 'pot' in regard to his name...

Wife's Chinese cousin chirpily describing her kids new school in Dublin: 'great school, mostly Irish, no blacks' :o

Yes, Chinese can be quite racist and blunt

Great film but set in Vietnam, so not exactly relevant to talking about the Chinese, sort of like calling the Danes sheep shaggers!

I remember a Kiwi couple having trouble getting accommodation in Thailand because they thought she was a prostitute because she was Moari and he was European looking.

I was in Thailand a few summers ago and a friend and I were in a bar when we saw some English girls that were staying at our hotel that we'd been drinking with them the nite before. They were drinking with a group of young Thai women who were at the next table next to them and were all getting along great together. They called me and my friend over to join them and when we did all the Thai girls got upset and started to leave. Ha, was awkward as **** and we didn't want to ruin their nite so we tried to just leave but the English girls wanted us all to drink together. After around half an hour the Thai girls started coming around and talking to us too but definitely weren't too happy about us joining. I didn't take any offence though as this was Bangkok and anyone who has been there will testify to the amount of 'sex tourists' around the place. Wasn't really happy that we were being categorized as this but I can see how they would have a chip on their shoulder towards western men.

She may not know that the N word is unacceptable.

However, in my experience Chinese people have a pretty low opinion of most foreigners.

They should have no trouble fitting in so.
