Not sure if this the right place but in my opinion it has....

We are changing physically and mentally at an amazing rate. The ones who survive to procreate are a lot different than those from even 50 years ago. Many people would not have survived then for a variety of reasons.

Healthcare is huge.We keep people alive now who would be tayty bread not so long ago.Not only are they alive but we are aiding their "faulty"genes to "infiltrate" the world gene pool. This may sound harsh but Im trying to make a realistic, pragmatic comment on where we are going.

I apologise to those that are offended by this but its just an idea.

Inbreeding used to be an issue until society cut it out(almost)

People with disabilities, special needs, genetic deformaties are allowed to procreate. Now,this wouldnt have happened years ago yet we are expected to support their progeny via the state.

I am not a heartless git but was just wondering what others may think

You're right, let's remove the rights of the disabled and leave the sick to die.

    Evolution is basically natural selection.
In first world countries there's no real natural selection, only in third world countries.

In first world countries, sexual selection is a bigger factor.
So womens choices determine the next generation more than the ability to outrun a lion.

What about Usain Bolt? I bet he has his pick of the ladies and can outrun a lion.

Natural selection is just one of the mechanisms of evolution.

I dunno why anyone would be offended by what you say. Eugenics is not an inherently bad thing.. just made to look that way by people who twisted it to suit their own ideals. It was first pioneered by a cousin of Charles Darwin (Francis Galton).

It makes perfect sense in today's world, with such a high demand and diminishing amount of resources. The technology exists which can predict the likelihood of couples passing on serious birth defects, and will most likely become more utilised in the near future.

Well I hate when people say "evolution has stopped" because you can't know unless you are able to see a million years into the future. Personally, I think it's a bit naive to assume we have stopped evolving, just because we have nice living conditions-we're going to keep adapting as the world changes

Feel free,Sir.It was an idea.Im not a nazi and those that throw comments like that away freely are muppets.Im not trying to purify the human race.

I was making a point how evolution has been interfered with. How you choose to take that is up to you.

What I said is fact.I have already said in my initial statement that its a factual argument.

I will humiliate you in a court of law if you try to infer that Im a nazi,so is there any chance that we could observe an commentate on how humans are changing? please?

cullen, perchance I have struck a nerve.Ill give you another go.Dont threaten me though.Try to put together a coherent sentence and perhaps you may see my point.

As an idea, it hasn't really evolved, which is ironic.

I meant if a person has a problem and it can be treated/fixed then it should be done. Do you not agree?

I am not concerned about people with medical problems - we might all be dead by now if born in 1600. They died for all kind of reasons which those of us who live may have suffered.

however I am worried about the rise of the under-class. In the small town in Ireland where I grew up until I was 10 there was about 10 problem families, now there are 100. Next generation 1000.

There will come a time when it will not be sustainable.

i understand the debate you want us to have here ,no emotion just logic and logically i see your point but we are an emotional species so the two are intertwined . in a world of total logic your idea would work but people love people and are emotionally attached even if the person is not geneticly ideal.

Well that isn't true is it? What is the difference between us emotion wise with guerrillas? Not much to be honest. Actually, some would say guerrillas are the real humans.

Of course anyone with an ailment should be treated. That is not the issue.

My issue ...sigh..is that we are in a place now where said medication is taking over from the natural process.

Im not advocating sterilisation of people with dna issues, god knows I have some, but certain conditions are obviously detrimental to the combined gene pool and society as a whole.

    *waiting for...are you a geneticist?*

It's all evolution, it hasn't stopped.

I don't think you have thought this out properly.

back in yonder years this might have been the issue. We're moving (have moved?) away from needing to protect the physically strong in order to survive.

I agree that when we were sleeping in caves and chasing dinosaurs for food* the continuation of the fittest and strongest was of the utmost importance, but today it seems kind of redundant.

We're developing into a society that's dependant on the evolution of the more cerebral for survival.

Would you have a problem with Steven Hawking procreating? I sure as hell wouldn't.
