How sympathetic are you towards accidental drug overdoses?

I have to say, part of me thinks if you play with fire, etc. Not that I wish death on them but I don't think I have as much sympathy as say someone who crashes their car due to an icy road.

(I'm not putting a poll in as I don't think it's a black and white question)

Very - whatever about playing with fire, it's still a tragic and premature end to a life.

    I'm unsympathetic towards polls.

If its someone taking a load of pills as a cry for help then i'm not sympathetic at all. If its someone who has taken something that doesnt agree with them ie. 'E' or coke with their mates then i'm a tiny bit sympathetic.

Don't feel bad for them at all

These stories are usually about some young girl and after the overdose its all

"Dont you feel sorry for this poor misguided girl, her friends and the parents, so tragic" and it would be the drug dealers fault, the boyfriends fault everyone elses fault but the thick bitch who actually sat down and consumed the drugs that killed her.

Before the incident the girl would be just another annoying, rude young tearaway with no regard for those around her except maybe the few scumbags she hangs out with.

it always amazes me how the scummiest slybag in the world will be made out to be a salt of the earth lad after they craok it

In despair and cries for help = no sympathy

Knows the risks of illegal drugs and carries on anyway = sympathy

    Really? Wow.

Most people who do drugs know the risks.
    No sympathy here I'm afraid.

I have sympathy for those overdosing accidentally on prescribed and/or necessary drugs for medicinal purposes.

I don't have sympathy for those using recreational drugs who take too much. We are better off without those people. Although I do feel sympathy for their friends and especially their family.

"tiny bit" more. Cries for help are a load of me bollox. Will never feel sorry for people like that. But yeah if some silly fecker takes a load of pills cause their mates are and they kick the bucket then i'd feel a bit sorry for them. Not much mind you. Both are idiots imo.

I don't see the point of this. Sympathy makes no difference to anything whatsoever unless it's acted on.

Would the people saying they've less sympathy refuse to come to the aid of the person who's had the accident?

Does you line of reasoning extend to smokers, fat people, adrenaline junkies, etc, OP.

I have zero sympathy for those who die from the use of recreational drugs as the risks are so well known.

How could you possibly be unsympathetic to another human being who dies from an accidental overdose? It doesn't make any sense.

How do you overdose on smokes?

Actually, i would dispute this. Most people who do drugs know the blown out of proportion bull**** that is touted by Government bodies as drug safety...very few people start taking drugs with adequate knowledge of the real dangers and safety issues of drugs.

The fact of the matter is that there is not enough proper information out there to keep people safe. The Irish Government in particular have been hammering the same model for donkeys years, which clearly is not working when it comes to stopping people experimenting with drugs.

It actually doesn't take all that much nicotine to kill someone.

We're not better off without Phil Lynott, Gerry Ryan (even though I was never a fan) and countless others.

    Yeah if you inject it!

For those who are unsympathetic. Would you also be unsympathetic towards morbidly obese people who eat their way into an early grave? Not as sudden an OD but a self induced premature death through excess all the same..

And smokers dying from lung cancer for that matter, same premise..

I'd totally see it as their fault - I'm just not completely cold though.

You do realise at the back of our horrific stats on suicide in Ireland are a lot of people who didn't cry for help, or did and found no sympathy? Now that's a load o' me bollix.

Two friends of mine growing up, one didn't cry out and paid the price, one didn't listen and paid the price. If I could talk to them now :(

I thought Phil Lynott's death was caused [indirectly] by heroin withdrawal, which is the opposite to an overdose I suppose :/ I remember seeing his mother being interviewed talking about it. I might have remembered incorrectly, so if someone know for sure can verify this please do.

It depends on the context surrounding the death. It's not enough to simply state "yes:no" because unusual factors which may have lead to the death may be present, whereas normally they would not. For instance, do you think you are less likely to overdose on a haste following a job loss?
