    Toll booth operator......

    "€1.80 please"

    "Thanks"

Repeat hundreds of times every shift........

Fundamentally don't agree with this. There's a huge difference between doing "easy" jobs and doing mundane necessary jobs. I'd say the middle management do a lot less work (and less competently) than the average toll booth operator, and I'd bet my last euro that they are better remunerated.

    Librarian ?

Checking in and out books all day, then walking a few metres to stack them away.....hardly rocket science or taxing ( sorry, no smilie for yawn, which I just did,by the way.)

Yeah, a librarian is a real girls job, so no physical labour required.
There's never any urgency in their job, no deadlines or anything.

Our library service is one of the few things left in this country that the founding fathers would be proud of. Open to all, egalitarian, and a provider of many services that you haven't mentioned. Where immigrants and natives swap language lessons for free, where OAPs meet up to "read the paper" (they have the paper at home but it doesn't come with people to discuss it with), Scrabble clubs, tech solutions for the computer illiterate without having to be embarrassed, Book clubs, I could go on...

How anyone can give out about our library service is beyond me.

Got to love the way people bitch and moan about the council being lazy, Over paid, etc etc. Well there was nothing stopping people from getting a job there.

They were doing work outside my house last week and i was chatting to them, i said yer getting on grand and your man says "ah we're slow to get going but when we do, we're grand". Did a cracking job though.

So working Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday would be the dream so.
I remember going into Xtra Vison so many times when the guy would be hooked watching a film with his feet up...What a job.

Thursday is usually delivery day, and Wednesday there's usually a tonne of feckers to ring who didn't return DVD's on the Monday so Tuesday is the ideal day!

Very regularly our local store changes the layout. Ballyfermot.
Lost count of the number of times it's been changed.

Staff are probably busy at that too

Yeah. Sorry chief, I should have multiquoted the fool who you were replying to. I was just backing you up and adding a bit more.

I get really annoyed when people attack the library service, as if it was an unskilled job.

Btw, I'm neither a librarian nor a public servant.
