Saying there are steroids in your protein powder is like saying there is cocaine in your energy drink. People generally don't put expensive stuff in cheap stuff (comparatively). The power of of placebo is usually enough to convince idiots of the ANABOLIC AWESOMENESS of supplements.

Birth control pills are something that do cause a fairly big hormonal change though. My point was that there is a fairly broad range of things that are classed as steroids. It's actually not that unheard of for companies to put some kind of steroid/secosteroid in with an impressive sounding name in low dosage to make the product sound better. I stay away from them because I think they're a waste of money, but if you're more cautious you may stay away for other reasons.

They don't sneak them in though, why would they?

Yes this is quite common. Another thing that I tend to see is them making the product name itself sound like a steroid. Some good examples of this are Anabolic Halo or Anabolic Switch, which are both just creatines :rolleyes:

Those were my thoughts exactly, and at no point did I think this product contained any actual steroids, or anything that would have a similar effect to them. But if they are banned here - rightly or wrongly - I'm not going to take them.

I only got rid of this stuff on the advice of someone that most people here would listen to.

st johns wort is banned as is ginko biloba, echinacea is going to be soon if I hear right.
if you lived in blacklion Co cavan it would be illegal, yet if you lived across the bridge in belcoo 100 yards away it would be perfectly legal.
Is it geography, arbitrary laws or something else that tells you what you can and cant do?
Call me old fashioned but I read, learn and decide as opposed to blindly following directives from a fianna FAIL government.
The same government that had jim mcdaid as minister of health that wanting to ban creatine.......he didnt want to ban alcohol though!

I can only speak for myself, but I'll be competing in some very, very low level athletics meets soon enough, and I can't imagine anything more pathetic than failing a random drugs test at one of these. For me, there would be just zero reward to justify taking even the tiniest risk in this area. So no matter how stupid it might be that something is banned, I'm not going to take it if it is.

Anyway the only point I was making on this thread was that just because something is on sale in a shop is no guarantee that it doesn't contain banned substances.

I think dont think WADA have it on their list of banned substances either. Id say the amount of it thats even in the stuff is so insignificant it wouldnt make any difference no matter how much you took

thats the thing-Im open to correction but last time I checked the amount of beta ecdysterone needed to have any effect was seriously expensive and the amount needed to have any effect would cost thousands.
Course having it listed as an ingredient is no harm for sales to the 'get big quick and easy' crowd....before they give up and blame their genes for lack of size gains

There are cases of CO's deliberately adding illegal components to a product to give it an edge for the first few batches and then it's pulled but by then the reputation of the product has been established.

There is even a term of this now 'Economically Motivated Adulteration (EMA)'.

I find the term for it funny - btw re: this EMA - not very likely in a whey product where the co's would prefer to reduce the costs by any means available.

I cant see it anywhere on the wada lists, from what i've seen its basically just a herb and you would need about 800-900mg of the stuff a day to do anything.

Honestly i think if you were planning on competing i would have consulted the organisers before throwing your money down the drain because i'd say there's such an insignificant amount that it wouldn't even show up in a test......if it even is illegal

thats fair enough so-although if theres alot of other things that you have to be careful of such as cold remedys-I remember reading about 2 variants of a common over the counter medicine, 1 was brand X for colds and the other was brand x for colds and flu.
The 1st was allowed but the 2nd wasnt as it has 1 ingredient that is banned, not only that but it goes by many long chemical names so is very easily missed even if you were being careful. If I remember correctly 2 south african rugby players are currently banned after testing positive for it.

Half the problem is that what is and what isnt banned is constantly changing, particularly when it comes to case of those substances found in cold medicines.

I cant remember the name but there was a case recently where someone tested positive for something found cough medicine In 2009, it wasnt banned,2010 it was a serious offence and i think he got a 2 year ban but this year it isnt considered a serious offence and only brings a 6 month ban.
