HRH is to visit Trinity College when she visits Ireland next month!

Great news! Now I wonder what kind of a reception will be laid on for her. A Fellows and academics only affair? Or will students be allowed participate too?

Great news... Now the Gob****e protestors will have even more reasons to disrupt my finals.

So help me if there is frisking and what not on the day she comes here and it causes me to be late for an exam.

Also is it any surprise that she would visit a place that someone in her institution founded?

She'll be here from Tuesday, May 17th to Friday, May 20th. I don't know when exactly she'll be in Trinity though.

As with all state visits, a trip to the Long Room is the plan to see the Book of Kells but will miss the 1641 Depositions exhibition which ended last week

Given Prince Albert of Monaco visited last week with the minimum of fuss disruption is unlikely as visits of significant heads of state are frequent in TCD

Odds are the visit will be while exams are actually on, e.g 10am so it will all be over and done with without anyone sitting an exam noticing

If it's just going to be another generic State visit, she might as well not bother coming.

When the King came 100 years ago, there was quite a fanfare. I must dig out some old photos of his visit and put 'em up here.

I'd imagine security will have to be a little higher than usual.

Not at all. Obama is coming to Belfield and the auld bitch is visiting TCD. To be honest, I'd rather Obama didn't come to UCD, if it can be prevented.

Don't want to take this too far off topic, but the Royal Prerogative grants the same swingeing power to the Prime Minister in office on behalf of the monarch.

Yeh woh?

Obama was elected. He's also a minority, from a socioeconomically deprived segment of society (by dint of his race, not his upbringing, that is), and overcame much discrimination and naysaying to rise to where he did. His being the president is hugely symbolic.

Elizabeth? She was born into it, didn't have to do a thing, never had to work for what she has or her position.

Given Trinity's less-than-savoury history with regard to colonialist sympathising and access to higher education for the underprivileged, and its contemporary efforts to make amends for both, Obama would be a far more suitable visitor for modern Trinity.

In addition to the above, given UCD's nationalist origins, a visit to them by the queen would also be extremely symbolic.

I don't know what all the fuss over exams is all about. It's going to be one of the biggest college spectacles in, arguably, a century, a day off studying and hopefully there'll be lots of sunshine, smiles and handshaking.

If you can't organise your study plan given more than a month's notice, perhaps university isn't for you. If you're going to be bitter about the Queen's visit, then please stay away and study at home to your heart's content. Nobody will miss you and nobody wants people around who are going to be a drag on the atmosphere.

My issue with the exam change is that ive gone from having 3 and a half days to 17 hours time off before an exam. Given that this is my final year, I would like to think I can pass!

Besides NO one on earth is important enough to warrant a whole college be closed for a whole day for a 15 min visit imo.

And good luck to anyone trying to see her that day! The whole of the city centre will be closed down and no one will get anywhere!

Hopefully she's well warned about the cobblestones. For an older woman I can see them being quite easy to trip on. And, god forbid, we wouldn't want her to trip and hurt herself. That's the last thing any of us would want. What a shame it'd be if she tripped and hurt herself.

But what if it rains!! Quick, we better order extra towels so we can get down on our hands and knees and dry them!! (That is after we have scrubbed the ground with a toothbrush first)

I am here because of my parents...dont think lizzie had anything to do with that...maybe you should ask your mammy and daddy about the birds and the bees...your a tad confused!

I am at trinity, built long before lizzie was born, again ask your mammy and daddy about that, because it offers the course i want and for no other reason.

No one on earth should be so far up their own ajhf to think the world revolves around them!
