Ya, think they changed it to lead into Portal 2. I really want to get this on PS3 but no way would the joypad be as precise or quick as mouse/kb but would love to play splitscreen on it. Then i'm not sure if Portal 2 will play on my laptop. So confused on what version to get.

I'd say get the PS3 version, which comes with a code for the PC version anyway... At least that way you can try it on your laptop and have the PS3 version to fall back on if that doesn't work out (Source games are usually pretty scalable, so it should run on it)

Anyone know if the PS3 version will have keyboard and mouse support ?? Would kind of make sense.

EDIT: Nevermind, it wont... seriously don't get why more developers don't take advantage of this feature on the PS3, would have thought Valve if anyone would. Only game i can think of that used it was UT3.

A little more of that is reveled in the recent portal comic - http://www.thinkwithportals.com/comic/ (Some spoilers! of course! it ties the new end of Portal with the start of Portal 2)

Personally I don't see the problem playing Portal with a control pad. I finished Portal on the 360 no problem and then the PC version. Valve have said that alot of people gave up at the "hard" parts of Portal because they could not manage it with the controller. I had no issues and I would be a below average gamer in controller skill.

They said they have toned all this down in Portal 2, which I see no need for. Unless it's for the PS3 pad with it's desperate layout and analogue sticks then yeah it will be alot harder to adapt than the 360 controller which is much more natural and better suited for FPS style games.

Anyway I hope my clapped out PC can run this tomorrow while I wait for Amazon to get the 360 version to me.

Currently 9:30am tomorrow. That time will go down a bit but Valve are known to delay by a few hours. But tomorrow is on the cards for the PC version.

Chance are the activation servers will be hammered, I've put my expectations firmly at "sometime tomorrow". There's talk of the potatoes being used for overclocking but not much evidence for that so far, if they are I'd say we'll see a release time that's more suitable for americans.

Sorry if this was mentioned but Smyths are giving 5 euro off console versions if you preorder with them making it 44.99. HMV might be selling for that anyway but not sure.

Do Smyths still do the 10% off all new releases with the loyalty card? Havn't bought a game there is years.

Personally I am beginning to think that the ARG will have minimal impact on the games release . . . I think it is setup in such a way that the release has to be within a timeframe very close to the original planned release time.
Perhaps Valve expected more people to take part and less bitching at set the scale for the amount of people who need to play too optimistically?

I'm with SO on this one. The whole thing seems a cop out. Sure look at the multiplier, it's at 450k+ and they are choosing to do nothing with it. If they applied that the game would have been released over the weekend.

There's an actualy map pack for Portal based on this game. It's called Portal: The Flash Version: Map Pack. Valve liked it so much they released a modified version of it included with the Xbox Live version of Portal.

It's probable that had it been easy enough to ensure a release over the weekend that all the other companies involved, EA, Game etc, would have had a fit. Sure Valve could have done it but they would have annoyed quite a lot of people in the industry. The gamers aren't really losing out, some people are getting a kick out of the arg, others simply aren't getting it. Either way we're guaranteed the game will be released by 3pm on Tuesday but there's a strong chance it will be released a little earlier

There was meant to be a number of potatoes after which the multiplier took effect but when the number was reached there was no immediate difference though apparently it's starting to kick in, certainly Killing Floor seems to be moving a bit faster than it has been. Also, a Valve rep has stated that focusing on a single game gives a bit of a boost as well.

I posted this exact theory on another forum the day all this started and i got lambasted for saying it.

This "ARG" is just a marketing tool so that both Valve and Portal 2 get a rub of the good-vibes indie voodoo. The first Portal was sort of a hipster-ish game and they just lap up indie stuff and augmented reality gubbins.

Well either way, an ARG is usually always a marketing tool at the end of the day. ;)

It seems that the ARG is solely based on the GLaDOS @ Home process at this stage. A lot of people have been saying that because there is no sign of the Steam Community members who were "kidnapped" by GLaDOS that the ARG must be on-going.

However I reckon I have a simple explanation for that - I have my suspicions that the group of eight were flown over to Seattle last week and are going to be at Valve for the Portal 2 release celebrations. It would not be the first time that Valve have brough Steam community members over for a launch. ;)

EDIT: Woops hold up, seems the ARG might be still out there!
    * 03:30: Internet-icon.png The PC and Mac editions of Portal 2 contain a map/file named e1912.bsp. While the PS3 and X360 versions don't have this file. It might be related to the ARG. (speculation)

Scott's South Pole expedition as well. The Borealis is supposed to be locked in ice isn't it?

    April 15 – RMS Titanic sinks at 2:20 a.m
April 18 – The Cunard liner RMS Carpathia arrives in New York with Titanic's 706 survivors.
April 19 – The United States Senate initiates an official inquiry into the Titanic disaster, hastily issuing subpoenas for White Star personnel before they can return to the United Kingdom.

    - coincidence dates! :)

They are either free or €5. Can't remember I got mine about 10 years ago, actually longer, it was the day I pre-ordered MGS1 on the PlayStation a week or so before it came out. I remember seeing all the sealed copies behind the counter and they could not put them out for sale. Ah the frustration, good times though.

It has. It appears to be dormant until Valve press the button behind the break glass.

Interesting . . . there is now a coordinated effort on the Steam Forums to try and get people to stop playing the Potato Sack games. Their reasoning is that the "Axillary Power" potatoes will only kick in as an axillary source of computation power if there is a low number of CPU's running.

Ah, the old 'reverse psychology' angle. I get it ;)

    It's almost inception like

A game about an insane AI, driving people to do meaningless tasks for fictional reward. A company making that game, driving people to do meaningless tasks for fictional reward.
