"Republican Sinn Fein" and "Votes" ?

    Does not compute

I dont think as many people will riot as predicted many people will be interested in seeing an apology.

I think the tourist board should be contributing greatly to the various costs. Footage of these visits is going to be shown all over the world. There will be tourism benefits (if we do it right).

And where do you think the tourist board's budget comes from?

That's right, the same place the Gardai's budget comes from! ;)

Draft the defence forces for the security op, what else have they got to be doing and spending their money on anyway apart from following trucks from the mint.

Our leave has been cancelled for the month of May Mr.Know-It-All.

look all this talk of riots and Dublin burning is bull****

she will not be driving down O'Connell in her roller waving at gawking west Brits

she has structured events in secure enclosed areas , no gob****es will get near her , as for rioters they will be kept well back and heavily policed , id say the cops will out number the gimps by 10 / 1

only way this is going to kick off is if she whips on a rangers top in headquarters and Phillip starts banging a drum while lizzy bangs out blue tunes from her pipe  atbh id pay 2 see that :D

the only reason she is going to Parnell sq and gaa hq is 2 make a statement ( i wont say apologize because don't want 2 up set the unionist mafia - evening lads :D )
if the gob****es had any brains they would not be rioting while a " apology " is being presented by the British queen
sure is that not part of what republicans wanted in the first place ??

lets hear what she has 2 say , show her round , make sure she goes home
end of drama , we can then get back 2 being miserable without worrying if the neighbors are still looking over the fence

What do people think? Sounds like they are in a bit of a panic and trying to work out how they should police this. Its not just the terror attack they will need to worry about, what about the potential riots which could be shown all over the world?
Well at least the Guards or the army wouldn't go out murdering 13 innocent civilians unlike her ' brave ' boys did in Derry in 1972.

Every time I hear that phrase, I picture a man standing in a rocky field wearing a peaked cap, shillelagh in one hand, pipe in the other, hanging out with his sheep - and thank my lucky stars that I was born a 'West Brit'.

LOL im far from a farmer sucking on his pipe living in the arsehole of nowhere :D:D

dublin / non irish speaking / follow british footbal , tv and comedy / could not really care if the british queen comes for a day or a week

does this make me a west brit ? no. It makes me much like most Irish.
a west brit is like john bruton and others of his ilk , flag waving and kn eeling to lick some windsor boot

people still vomit when john brutons speech in dublin castle is mentioned
now HES a west brit :D lick lick lick

Nah, that won't happen. They will just trot out the old "no proof" line. Personally, I cant see this day passing without some level of violence with some looting and terrorrising of West Brits (people in the city going about their business or in viewing the queen).

Obama's visit will be fine. There might be a few anti-war nutters but nothing worth talking about.

so do the gardai tell the government ... sorry - we cant fund the state visit ... so we either get more money ...or we call in a "blue flu" day(or 2) !! ..... please ... the only stuff that wont be funded will be those which were excessive to requirements anyway.

maybe some gardai will not be allowed to participate in the international police force marathon or garda olympics - unless they can find sponsors....maybe hotels will have to be 3star instead of 4star.

Ah! Guess who has a gripe? Did ya get caught for speeding again?

The americans contribute a lot to the presidents visit dont they? I thought they shipped in lots of security and took care of logistics and that and the Gardai co-manage it?

Apparently there'll be fighter jets and blackhawks over head and our mobile phones will be cut out for awhile!

Yeah, I was gonna say, I don't think we trust any government to provide full security for our President. I think the Gardai will be relegated to coffee and donut runs. :D

I could not agree with that statement more!!

Its also **** that as an English person, living in Ireland, and having read through the different threads related to this subject, I now feel too scared to go see the Queen when she visits.

Don't be, its just a few dead-enders talking tough on an internet forum.

I certainly wouldn't let the content of threads stop you from going. I think the police will be well prepared for the trouble this time round and those of us who want to go and enjoy ourselves will be able to do so. The republicans will try and cause bother, I have no doubt about that but it certainly wont stop me for enjoying myself.

This is Ireland. You must be getting us confused with Greece or France or someplace.
I'd say the queen's visit probably will provoke riots though - but of the idiotic, knuckledragging kind, like the one against Love Ulster.

Personally I don't think there will be major riots. There will be some though, that'd inevitable. Although a cynical part of me wouldn't mind seeing them and just standing back and watching them happen.

If gardai intervene we get lambasted saying we are too heavy handed. Be interesting to see what would happen if a very softly softly approach was taken. just letting people occupy buildings and damaging property. (I'm not advocating this but would love to see an editorial saying gardai should take a harder line on rioters)

The queens visit will cost huge money to the force. If a separate budget isn't put in place for the visit then Garda funds won't last the year simple as.

All Garda leave has been cancelled during the period of the visits (tough if you could afford to book a holiday).

This will be one of the largest security operations undertaken in the history of the state. Thousands of gardai will be drafted in from every division in the country. It's not unreasonable for management to look to the department of finance for extra funds in this case.

There will be a big hardcore element protesting the visit, and thugs from the North will also come down bent on causing trouble.... I just hope the Gardai and Special Branch are prepared properly, not like the fiasco of the love ulster march... and believe me the protests against the queens visit will make the love ulster protests look like a picnic (most of the gob****es in that were local scumbags and a few foreigners).

^^Thats what makes me scared of going. I know there will be plenty of people there for the same reasons as I would be and they would enjoy themselves and not cause trouble.

But there will almost certainly be a group of people just set on causing some kind of trouble. Thats what puts me off going, I dont want to get caught up in all of that.
Why do a small minority have to ruin it for everyone else? Peaceful protesting is obviously fine, everyone has the right to demonstrate their opinion but I fear it will just turn to violence.
Maybe irrationally, I also worry that my English accent could make me more of a target for people shouting abuse etc.

And don't forget the forthcoming Northern Ireland vs Ireland match plus another NI match a few days later at the Lansdowne Rd stadium all in the month of May too, last time the Nordies came down a couple of months ago there was local trouble, nice little earner for the Gardai to police the 2 matches. Bumper overtime in prospect!

There was a report on the BBC website that Ireland can't actually afford to police the Queen visiting and Obama... never mind the football matches :(
Can't find the link to it though :o

I honestly think it will be a 'make it or break it' period for Ireland's tourism industry. If something does happen during either visits, it will be on the news for 24 hours, days on end. You may still get those gaggles of Spanish/Brazilian students crowding on buses, but any negative event will scare away other visitors and completely shatter the notion of relative peace. Protests are one thing, but any violent acts will just be selfish by any party that commits them.

Completely agree, the previous government and the current administration harp on about a boost to tourism.... if something did happen, it would certainly have the opposite effect :(

take no notice of these armchair republicans, school kids and irish citizens will be on the streets waving union flags and giving the queen a warm welcome,at this moment in time all irish dignitaries are campaigning to get her to visit their city,

Would our fair Mary have to consult with the gardai or dept finance or something prior to making invitations or does she do it and let others worry about logistics afterwards
