Would you go into outer space? (and why)

Biggins put "Space" in his travel bucket list, so now I'm wondering who else would like to go into space?

Some people I've spoken to would jump at the chance, but personally, I don't think I would/could..
I'd be terrified of the idea: I'm bad enough on planes as it is, and I'm very afraid of things to do with the universe, the vastness etc., and it the thought of it all tends to send me into a depressing existential crisis..

How 'bout you folks? Same? :pac:

I don't know about you OP but I'm in space already....along with the rest of the planet. In fact I've traveled about 900 million km in the last year alone

Where the hell are you posting from?

just to land on the moon and have to fight the urge to take off my helmet
a bit like crossing a bridge and getting the urge to jump over the side!

What a silly question, man! Of course I would, there's probably a better chance of employment in space, anywho, though I don't know what space customs are like. (Strict like Australia? Would I need space currency in my intergallactic account before I can enter a galaxy?)

Ah, I'd be happy if I just floated around earth. That would be a hell of a sight to see, definitely one thing I'll have to do when I'm old. 60 years of technological advancement should be sufficent..........even if I'm a head in a jar by then :pac:

Yes, definitely! Even if there was only a 50:50 chance of coming back I'd still do it in a heartbeat.

To be fair, asking this question on the internet is always going to garner more positive responses.

Actually, if I could be on the moon and bounce around for a while in the low gravity, I'd enjoy that bit.

Stuck in a confined space with a small window showing you infinitely more interesting places you could be?
Having to pee in a bag and eat specialised nutrientally (sp) enhanced food from a bag? (a different bag)

I can't imagine it's much different to being an old senile man with a weak bladder

That should be very obvious if you're male. If you're not, there's no helping you.

I'd like to go to space and see Earth from a different perspective, like that image from the Moon looking down on Earth, it would be humbling and sureal in equal amounts.

It would be even better if IMO, if I could go further a field, Mars maybe and try setup a new human civilsation even if it meant I couldnt come home I'd feel the responsibilty and recognition would be to good to turn down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,758 ✭✭✭✭TeddyTedson

On second thoughts, going into space is kind of like climbing the sugar loaf, it's something everyone wants to do but then when you get there you realise it's boring and a waste of time.

Dam right i would, I have been lied to by shows like beyond tomorrow!
I expected to be living in a space station by now :(

Outer space? Oh, no, not for me. For one thing the party scene up there wouldn't be much to write home about - no atmosphere.

  • Registered Users Posts: 583 ✭✭✭PandyAndy

I wonder if some people who would choose euthanasia would prefer to be blasted with piss off into space and just left floating towards the sun?

But yea, I'd love to go to space and just float around for a bit.
