in fairness if the baby signs annoy you dont look at it
ffs have ye nothing better 2 debate

they originate from the US due 2 a accident where the the mother was knocked unconscious and could not tell rescue crews about the child that WAS in the back but was thrown out a side window

the child survived the crash but died after because the rescue crews did not find it until the next morning , a sign might have saved its life

now crews are trained to not only check the immediate area but the surrounding are also just in case of a child or even a adult being shot out a window ( happens more often than you think )

but i really dont see why people are getting upset by these stickers
just dont look at them , or maybe its another reason your getting annoyed and in that case sort your own head out and stop being a grumpy **** face on a sunny Friday evening and get a poxy life

really boards is just getting worse - they will let anybody on the internet these days - should be a entrance exam at least :D
now whos up for a pint in a beer garden ?

    As mentioned earlier, you're wrong.

yea its on the net so must be true LOL

either way the point still stands that only clowns would get annoyed by
a stupid feckin sticker on a random car ????
if it was racist or something really offensive then fair enough
but its not - so cop on and keep your anger for something that actually ****ing matters

who cares if someone wants 2 point out that they may or may not have a sprog in the car ???

sure why not start giving out about trucks that have " horses on board " are they showing off as well , or those pesky cars that have " garda " on the side , bloody show off rapists ( )

of all the things to grind someones gears i really dont get this one ,
maybe i can control my random pointless anger better than most

now off for that pint !!

The fact that this was the third reply is shocking and depressing. What happened to the Simpsons in AH?

    I actually have four kids.

Anyone who pays out money for a baby on board sign is sad that's my opinion.

My thinking on it is, you should be a safe stopping distance from any vehicle - regardless of whether it has one of those things on the rear window or not.

Correct. It doesn't matter why or when a car stops in front of you; if you've been maintaining a safe distance, you won't have to worry about hitting it.

Unfortunately, for many drivers in this country, "safe distance" = "enough room to park a mini - just".

    Stork.

Link has quotes from the manufacturer of BOB signs & references, so yeah, it's probably a safer source to rely on then your pitiful excuse of a post.

    LOL

Just have to get this off my chest.

One thing i can,t stand is prats parading around with their signs on cars telling the world they have a baby on board.

    Big f***ing deal!

I think that of a lot of things to get worked up over, this has to be one pretty sad one!
Surely there is better things to grow a chip on the shoulder for?

The original was meant to mean something along the line as "if your close enough to read this actual sign - then back the fcuk off 'cos your driving up too close behind me! Your possibly risking a childs life too as well as yours and mine."

Instead of peaking in through car windows, try ignoring them and actually keep your eyes on the road instead and do us all a favor.

I thought they were to keep idiots like you from driving to close to the arse of my car

Shor I,m not an idiot or stupid I,m a driving 26years and always keep distance from car in front.

Suppose some prat will come ow and tell me the number of infants killed in cars has dropped ha ha

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

And what would make them a prat? Telling you something that negates your claim?

This is another thing that's viewed as parents seeking special treatment when it's more about the safety of the baby. I'm sure there are those who put the sign there to make a big deal about the fact that they are parents, but much of the time, it's out of concern over e.g. tail-gating.

Himmm... don't see whats funny about infant deaths myself.
...And so what IF some does confirm such deaths are less - I for one be damn glad to hear it confirmed!
I certainly wouldn't call anyone a prat just because they might be stating a true fact.
Better off we state more facts and truths more often than go around just moaning about absolutely stupid, moronic things.

Well personally i used one when our daughter was a baby so that in case i was driving slowly it meant that id a new born in the car or baby was going to sleep and so that some a**hole behind me wouldnt beep or become aggressive which they often seem to do.
Also for parking in parent and child parking spaces....

Baby on board stickers are a big pain of mine, but are a fair warning system

baby on board sticker real definition : watch out ! I am a most likely bad driver of the female gender, Ill take ages to pull off from traffic lights as Im to busy paying attention to my kids in child seats , I want everyone to marvel at how I managed to do what 90% of the women of the world do and pop a kid out, I will jam on the brakes for no reason and I will never use my indicators, for bonus points I like turning round in traffic and talking in a retard voice to my kids while still traveling at 10-20km/h , I most likely drive a sh*tbox mpv / quashqai / renault scenic or similar and It has more dents and scratches than a rally car. I will scowell at you when you try to overtake me and think everyone else is an asshole for undertaking me while I do 40 km/h in the right or middle lane of the M50.

Also the mothers with baby on board stickers also seem to be the type of people who cant tell a story without involving their kids "so i was driving along and this madman overtook me at about 60 , and shure didnt I have 2 kids in the back and all" or "how dare you do 101km/h on the motorway , I could be there with my kids and your a mennace"

Im that asshole , and its normally because your driving slowly or poorly , I make use of fingers and horn beeping to maximum extent because the look on your face is worth it - also bonus points if you have other / slightly older kids in the car as theyll probably start using the finger on you too not knowing what it means

I have one on my car and I'm surprised to hear it would annoy anyone...?

I got it free in a box of baby related stuff Supervalu were giving out when i was pregnant and stuck it up. It falls down a good bit so a lot of the time it isn't there when I think it is and, I can't say I notice a difference in the manner in which other cars/drivers approach me on the road.

The reason I have left it there and put it back up when it falls off, is to advise that other drivers keep their distance from my vehicle. It doesn't work and I find the vast majority of drivers still drive fairly close to the back of my car and, cars in general. I don't have fantastic suspension on my car, so going over ramps and on poor road surfaces etc, I need to slow down so as to avoid giving my child whiplash. I also make an effort to brake and accelerate gently. I am not a dangerously slow driver or a nuisance on the roads but I do stick to the speed limits and avoid driving around like I'm in Le Mans or something. Which cannot be said for a LOT of other drivers on the road, who speed pretty much all of the time and who seem to think it is acceptable to drive so close to my car, at times, that i can't see their headlights. The signs don't work, but I'd rather have it than not, just in case the occassional conscientious driver takes note and does back off. Rather have it annoy a million drivers who don't give a f*ck, if it encourages even one driver to give me a little space and consideration on the road (and in car parks).

You don't need a pretend pass to park in the pretend reserved spaces. Or you could just pretend...

I'm surprised to read this as the majority of drivers I encounter, male and female, who have children in the car would be particularly careful when it comes to using indicators etc and would make an effort never to brake suddenly and are better drivers than most, in that they actually stick to the rules of the road.

Yeah you must be one of the bigmen that doesnt to the same to blokes or when theres a bloke in the passenger seat

    Real tough

Relax everyone... It'd notice for you to not park anywhere near them in a car park cos the door has to be opened really wide to get the child out... And bummer for your car door if it's in the way!!!

I have no problem doing to to lads, if your pissing me off , your pissing me off , regardless of gender - having kids in the car does not give you an excuse to be a bad / careless driver

Just because there are kids in the car doesn't give you a reason to expect them to be going 90 miles per hour like a boy racer, nearly smashing into stuff and doing handbreakers up and down the road.

It works both ways. You think because they have kids in the cars it means they have an excuse to be a "bad" driver. What exactly defines a "bad driver"? Someone who goes slightly below the maximum speed limit? Someone who is more careful so not to get into an accident?

no , thats what they all seem to think, that a sticker means theyre no longer obliged to follow the rules of the road.

I never said they should race around like a boy racer ,

bad driver - going innapropriatly below the speed limit, having no care for other road users, being distracted by other things and not paying attention to the road

all of those things make a bad driver and all of those things are regular occurences with people with baby on board stickers
