How about the simple point that there is an obvious difference between arresting police officers and a buch of civilian jerks??

I hope your not trying to insinuate the the Gardai involved in the 'RAPE THREATS' should have been arrested? :(

Which type of people would women normally report rape too?? - take your time now!!

A little hint, you can normally come across as less of a douche by helping people find information in a 100+ page thread. ;)

Waste of time - I've posted plenty of links in this thread already but they are just ignored by the usual suspects cos it doesn't suit their agenda:(

If you aren't going to provide links to the comments you mentioned I'll have to assume you are making things up as you go along.

No. I am asking you to link to them, just as you would ask me to do if I had mentioned them first.

If you are going to use something some-one said to make an argument then you must quote or give links to it so we judge it for ourselves.

It was in pretty much all the papers yesterday as well as the main TV news - did you just fly in from Mars this morning???

I'm reading through the old posts on this. He or she's been shown to be making things up quite a bit and has just ignored facts that have been presented. I think it's a lost cause. I'm not too impressed with the tone in some of the posts too. It's quite aggressive and condescending.

I have been largely ignoring press coverage in the last day or so, as it annoyed me a bit the way they were covering it.

Can you give us the gist of it?

Oh get off your high horse will you.

You know if you want to people to take your points you could do worse than dropping the condescending tone and agressiveness.

Here's one of the few links I can find. Most of the recording has been deleted it would seem.

This is just gone beyond ridiculous at this stage, 5 days of faux moral outrage over something so minor. Even a protest outside the dail for it today for some bizzare reason. Nobody got killed, nobody got raped - it was only words (in bad taste) at the end of the day and its been main headline news all week. People in this country should really get some perspective if they can spend 5 days getting worked up over this.

What will be next weeks inane topic for rent a mob to complain about?

Half way down the following link:

    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/rapetape-woman-goes-public-2613771.html

Its also in the Irish Times and a 2 page in-depth spread in the Daily Mail

Just to point out that John Monaghan is a local blacksmith and is married to a local teacher - I'm saying this before the usual smears tactics directed against the protestors kick off again in this thread:mad:

    Much appreciated, thanks.

It's sounds but if the Ombusdman didn't feel it was within it's remit to investigate it probably was in much the same vein as the recent comments.

I think we'd need to hear the recording to be sure.

    Now was that so hard.

Again it's hard to know without hearing the recording.

What about your smear tactics directed against the Gardaí. If anything from the people posting about the protestors they have shown evidence like the girl being pictured on the Tractor, the fact the woman had been arrested but not charged. You would then just shift your argument to avoid admitting you were wrong. 04KY said he worked on the site and was abused by protestors and you dismissed him with some snide remark. If this was a debate it would be over and you'd have lost.

Thanks. From what I can make out, they didn't refuse to investigate, but the office of Ombudsman wasn't actually set up on time, so the report was therefore made to late, if that makes sense.

Their has been ongoing concerns about the type of policing in this part of Mayo - this is yet another scandal to hit the Gardai in recent years and such things are of course newsworthy despite what some on this thread would have us beleive:(

My point about people ignoring links that don't suit their arguements has just been made - this thread is beyond farce at this stage!!

Jeez that female protestor (Jerrie Ann Sullivan) who publically came out has a moustache!!!!

I find that more disgusting than the comments made by the Gardai.

It's not a scandal. Gardai in "joking about the public" shocker.

Anyone who thinks that the Gardai police officers the world over don't make fun of people they've arrested when talking privately between themselves, needs to get a reality check and a sense of perspective.

In this case the Gardai were making fun of the woman because of her ridiculous insinuation that she would be sexually assaulted when arrested. And it was funny, and deserved. Sarcasm, go look it up.

Unfortunatly the Gardai have as much respect for the Ombudsman as they do for the protestors as the following link clearly illustrates:(

In other words what we've got is a five year old recording and allegations which were never substantiated? Great stuff.

In a separate incident a Garda was injured this morning foiling another tiger-kidnapping Post Office raid. Great job.

Why should they respect protestors? Especially when the majority of them break the law?

If you want to live in a country where the right to protest is curtailed - somewhere like Yemen or Libya might suit you;)

I wouldn't say that shows a lack of respect. They merely didn't take on board the recommendations, as they didn't fit in with their policies.

Just because a complaint is made, doesn't always mean that it is a valid complaint, or it doesn't mean that action has to be taken.

    .

Because the recording was never properly investigated as the link I posted clearly shows - a recurring theme in this part of Mayo by all accounts, hence the flood of complaints to the ombudsman:(

Curtail v respect = two different things. If I was protesting and generally trying to be a nuisance (like now :D) then I wouldnt expect or deserve respect.

Actually the moustache thing reminds me of this dialog in Intermission (edited to suit situation).

    Protestor1: Have I got a ronnie?
    Garda1: A what?
    Protestor1: A ronnie, moustache, like?
    Garda1: Show.
    I]pause[/I
Garda1: Well you're no Tom Selleck, but...
